This is a prime example of why we need term limits for all elected officals. The longer they are in office the more they behave like elites than the public servants they are suppose to be. Laws are a good thing but those have to be balanced against unreasonable intrusions into peoples lives. Infact the fed needs to go back to the limited roll it was intended to have and let the states and the citizens who live there decide what laws serve them best.

Even now, His Nibs lawyers are trying to have the 22nd Amendment nullified. This amendment was designed so that no one could run for a third term. This amendment was installed after FDR ran for and won a 3rd term.

There's nothing in the bill that requires anyone to retrofit existing homes, no matter how many times this guy interrupts his guest while he's trying to respond.

No, I read Sec 202, which is what these guys were talking about. It contains all the language that the host was quoting. It's the section that contains the retrofitting program. There's nothing in there about inspections or required changes. It just ain't there.

What a nutcase. I read the excerpt and it most definitely includes current homes and spells out some of the details required in order to sell under the new proposed rules. I have spent over $20,000 in the last 12 years to make my home more energy efficient, with almost no savings. It is more confortable tho. I own a small rental home, approx value of $100,000, and I estimate it would cost over $40,000 to meet these so called new standards. Act now and tell our representatives NO to such an idiotic idea.

This is nothing more than "CAFE" standards for your home. The same thing they've done to Detroit, they're gonna do to the home owner. It'll be small at first - you know, just the BRAND NEW HOMES, but then these CAFE standards will trickle down to existing homes (to save YOU money in the long run - yeah sure ...). On and on and on ....until we become a nation of renters instead of private property owners ...

If I were a liberal, i would say that it makes your house more energy efficient environmentally friendly and more attractive to buyers. But being a conservative I deal with reality. After you spend thousands of dollars in fixing up your old house so you can sell it, you realize that now you can't afford to buy that new house you were looking at.

If you think the real estate market i bad now, just wait until this little gem goes into effect. It will essentially strangle homeowners to the point where they couldn't give their home away. The upgrades that would be required to bring an older home up to "green" standards would in a lot of cases be more than what the home is worth. Add on to that a hefty increase in the amount your power bill is going to increase and you'll see people dropping their keys off at the bank left and right.
