Senate Leaders: Pelosicare Is 'Dead on Arrival'

WASHINGTON - The glow from a health care triumph faded quickly for President Barack Obama on Sunday as Democrats realized the bill they fought so hard to pass in the House has nowhere to go in the Senate.

Speaking from the Rose Garden about 14 hours after the late Saturday vote, Obama urged senators to be like runners on a relay team and "take the baton and bring this effort to the finish line on behalf of the American people."

The problem is that the Senate won't run with it. The government health insurance plan included in the House bill is unacceptable to a few Democratic moderates who hold the balance of power in the Senate.

If a government plan is part of the deal, "as a matter of conscience, I will not allow this bill to come to a final vote," said Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Connecticut independent whose vote Democrats need to overcome GOP filibusters.

Proudnow - Tort reform(which the dems will NEVER go for because the trial lawyers are their biggest source of contributions) and portability and high risk pools would do so much more without destroying what is working just fine for 80% of the population. I do not have insurance, but I would rather strive to get it myself than have Fedzilla take over and "give" it to me.

When I began replying to you I first did so in jest, truly trying only to aggravate you. I don't want to do that anymore so I'll ask you one question. Do you think the American Health Care system as it now stands serves the people in this country the way they deserve to be served? That is the only issue I really have. It is not right and Republicans have a long history of fighting it. (as do some dems.)Like many politicians, they get huge dollars from these insurance, pharmaceutical companies. It did not meet their needs to hamper profits earned by these big guys. Only now are they being forced to consider it's time for a change. This is the change we've all been waiting for. My family has always had insurance,we're fortunate. I swear to you I've seen hard working families destroyed through no fault of their own when hit by medical catastrophe. I don't really care how it gets done. I'm glad it is finally going to happen.

The reason for the delayed start is twofold. The structure needed to begin this type of unprecedented action is not automatically in place. It will have to be designed to accomodate. From my understanding the second reason is solely to placate Republican stick in the mud politicians that will have to explain to their constituants how sorry they are for not getting on board in the first place

Republicans have been embarrassed into trying to put together a plan. They dodged it in 1994,and they tried dodging again this year. It is the American public, screaming for reform that has forced their hand. They have yet to come up with anything that prevents insurance middlemen from taking .85 of every health care dollar. Don't worry folks..we're gonna fix it for you. Like it or not.

How about we have been supporting our neighbors for generations now and are really tired of it, the War on Poverty failed, all it did was create a section of the population that became totally depndant on the government and got their extra spending money hooking and selling drugs, now we have to make sure that they have the same kind of medical care that honest hardworking people have? It time they got off the government tit and earned something.

Good, there is nothing in the Constitution that gives the Federal government the power to force Americans into healthcare and then punish them if they refuse to sign up. If this thing passes, the States should rise up and use the power of the 10th amendment to disallow its implementation.

This is NOT about healthcare.
It is about government control of people's lives.
There will be thousands of gov. officials that will go INTO the homes of people with children, to "check on the health of the child"
The health will include "abuse and neglect"
Who defines "abuse?"
Abuse could be teaching a child that Jesus is the only way to heaven, therefore NOT teaching a child to be tolerant of muslims, buddists, etc...
