I have just returned to Arkansas from visiting my son and family who moved from Boston to Seattle this summer--came home with a hole in my tongue from trying to be polite.
They watch CNN, NBC, and local news and have utterly no idea of what is going on in America. Never would have believed that I could have raised an elitist son. He grew up in New England but attended conservative schools, Babson College and MBA from Boston College in business. He married a Harvard girl from Seattle---that may explain it.
My older son I can understand even though I disagree with him. He went to Bennington in Vermont for undergrad and has his master's from Yale---they got to him young!! Now he and his liberal wife live and work in NYC. I understand why on him but not my younger one.
It is extremely difficult for us to cope with--sort of like Civil War days. I did learn on my trip that my generation and the ninety something year old grandparents agree with us and are very conservative--they have to tread lightly too. I love my son and only grandson too much to let it interfere.
I am sure that many families are experiencing this difficulty now.

I feel your pain, but my situation was with my siblings and parents, they are all Liberals and some are even extreme Liberals, but I can only find comfort on the fact that they're still family and for that I will always loved them, no matter what.

I totally understand! I just forwarded an email about neediing a license on a house now, like a car. In one year it has to be up to standard GREEN specs or you can't sell. My sister in law, whacked me back with, "I'm believing the FOX NEWS lies again. We really can not get along because of the division that is going on in this country. Reagan had us all united and patriotic. I so miss that!!!
