WASHINGTON TIMES EXCLUSIVE: The White House is collecting and storing comments and videos placed on its social-networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube without notifying or asking the consent of the site users, a failure that appears to run counter to President Obama's promise of a transparent government and his pledge to protect privacy on the Internet. Marc Rotenberg, president of the Electronic Privacy Information Center, said the White House signaled that it would insist on open dealings with Internet users and, in fact, should feel obliged to disclose that it is collecting such information.

isn't it strange that the day the stay this is posted here the website gets hacked?
Its the only reason I can think of why you could log in but not log out or post.

This is not news. We knew that this type of thing would happen when he was elected. I don't contact the White House anyway, they don't care what I think

Where is the ACLU? Invading people's privacy? The libs hollered foul when they bugged the terorists but now it's OK to do it to regular citizens? Libs have to be dumber than dirt!!
AlanB
What civil liberty is being violated when the White House archives posts made on its own Facebook page?
SaneInsanity

@Alan
You've made previous comments about the fact that the article reads the WH is collecting data from "it's" social network pages. You are correct. However, given that FOX is the only voice that intends to uncover the corrupt underpinnings of this administration and it's robotic constituents, it goes without saying that it would be of great interest to them the dynamic of comments posted here on the Foxnation. This is not based on conspiracy theory but rather simple fact. Thoughts?
AlanB
I'd be very, very surprised if there were any sort of systematic monitoring of FN by the WH. Does someone there have a peek from time to time? Maybe. Probably, even. Any sensible political organization wants to know what people are saying about it and how its initiatives are being received. But is this organized? I very much doubt it. For one thing, too much of the stuff I see here is just plain loony-tunes. On this very topic we have people comparing Obama to Stalin because the WH is archiving stuff posted to its Facebook page. How useful is that kind of information?

The Russians are coming! The Russians are coming! Whoops....wrong. Now it is Hussein is coming! Hussein is coming! Forewarned is forearmed

They won't have anything on me because I don't care to visit their twitter or FB page. They will hear what I have to say when I vote in the next election. They will hear me loud and clear!!
WeThePeople
We're collecting information on them too, and we're going to use it in 2010, and 2012 and beyond. http://www.avoiceofthepeople.com

The site is acting strangely today, or posting is down by 90%. What up?

I'm afraid to post. Government's watching.
AlanB
You know that you can't get "The government's watching" from this article, right? That it doesn't say the WH is monitoring/archiving arbitrary web sites? That nothing in there indicating that the government is watching these messages?

They want you be afraid..that's the whole point. FEAR..
They want to take our voice away because they realize just how big the silent majority is, Keep fighting for our freedom.

...but the Patriot Act was bad because....why again???
AlanB
Let's see. The White House is archiving posts placed on its own Facebook page. The Patriot Act allowed the government to listen in on your private phone conversations without a warrant. You don't see any difference?
iquit
.......you should talk with the big O. Apparently..........he's using it (the Patriot Act ) to his advantage

Who'd be surprised by this?? Just more of the same PARANOID dealings of Barry...
Capt. Yossarian
I would expect the government to keep a record of the communications they receive.

I would expect you to move to France!

OK Atticus ...all i can find on this is...information going to or from the Office of the President...Nothing about Web access

Presidential Records Act 1981.
SkinnyMan - California
Atticus is correct - the WH is required to keep all communications for a set period of time. This avoids "lost" records.
mythoughts
Archival requirements are one thing - using the information without approval (emails to unsolicited) is illegal.

I am definitely a law abiding citizen and have worked for the Federal Government since I was 18. If they are in my rights to free speech then I am going to file a lawsuit. This is no longer a free country. The White House has turned against the Constitution and the Operation Guardian needs to start in accordance to Guardian Operations Orders. I will protect the Constitution bagainst both Domestic and Foreign at any cost.

Another day, another white house illegal act!
AlanB
What exactly is illegal about archiving posts on your own Facebook page?
AlanB
What's illegal about archiving posts on your own Facebook page? Please be specific. Thank you.

Big Brother should have plenty of my tweets to read. Oh well. If I have to lose everything to give my 6YO and his children freedom, then that is what I will do.

We are quickly turning into South America. Is this the hope and change Barry promised up. I what no part if this.
proud_american
Well, there has to be something in his Presidential library. Now that "We the People" know his agenda he won't have anything other than his kids coloring books and some scribblings from Rod......

if i question this am i racist?
AlanB
No, but it probably does mean that you didn't read the article very carefully.
AlanB
@A.R.: Gee, your reply makes no sense at all. What makes you think I didn't "figure it out"? I pointed out the additional fact that questioning this WOULD seem to indicate that he didn't read the article carefully, since, if he had, he would know that what they're archiving is stuff posted to their own Facebook page, etc., which seems pretty unexceptionable to me.
AeroRiley
Gee, maybe if you paid attention to the news over the last 6 months or so, you could figure out "BAE"'s comment. Every time someone disagrees with the president, someone plays the race card. Jimmy Carter is the latest. Try to keep up!!!
Herb
The day I let someone intimidate me over what I do in my own home is the day the earth will stand still. Bring it on if you dare. 2010 can't come fast enough and then Obama will have to play checkers, because he will be as useless as Bush was the last two years. Go for it dude. You’ve already cost yourself another four years in the WH.
AlanB
Does this post have anything at all to do with this article?
Benji
Yes alan, it did.. don't try to make someone feel stupid. It's mentioned in the article that the archiving may cause people to avoid or be concerned about posting their opinions about the Administration. Herb was saying that he wouldn't allow the government to cause him concern or fear through the archiving in his own home (since a large majority of people are at home when on the internet). He then expressed his feelings about it by saying he can't wait to vote people out in 2010.
Did you read the whole article before you posted your comment, alan?

Beware the Geheime Staatspolizei: "Secret State Police" (GESTAPO) and the "Enabling Act" (Germany 1933) wont be to far away. This so-called administration cares about nothing less than raw power over the lives of its citizens!

Are they collecting info on acorn? that might be fun to read.

Oh they won't do that...don't you know its ok if the libs talk smack, but not us....you know they are losing the fight when they play the race card..
