Surprised? The administration has seen it's approval ratings plummet after the 9.5% job report. It's a diversion. What is surprising is how completely iladvised the strategy was. As a very good bi-partisan lobbyist told me today "don't they ever learn?!"

RedR----You are forgetting two facts. Clinton decimated the military to achieve positive stats. Bush, after 9/11, had to rebuild the military, fight two wars, and protect the economy from disaster.

That;s just silly. Clinton did not decimate the military to get those stats, he led a great economy.
Bush's deficit is mostly due to his tax cuts (which really failed), with a little due to Iraq and the bailout.

And they ignore that Reagan had to rebuild the military after Carter. Yet we had the most prosperous economy on record. And that build up brought an end to the Cold War.

RedR posts these same stats, and, when i catch him at it, I ask:
1. Who controlled Congress (the ones who spend the money) the last two (and most expensive) if W's years in office?
2. Which Presidents benefitted from a recently won war, like the end of DS1, the Cold War, WWII.
There are other very good questions, but these get teh idea across.

Your naming presidents, they don't control spending they can only veto what they don't like and will rarely veto a budget because the country has to function. The question is who controlled congress when the deficit increased and decreased? I think you will see a whole different story. The other question is how much did they cut our defenses to make these gains? The primary duty of the federal government is national defense not redistribution of wealth. In fact redistribution is un-constitutional.

I listed a direct quote from Bill Clinton, and got smashed because it came from the New York Times. Let's wait and see, but obviously if Cheney is not guilty that is good news in general, I have no idea what we would have done if he was found guilty of something like this. Still, some unnamed source is not nearly enough, hopefully the source will come out clean in any investigation if there is one.
