When Barack Obama nominated John P. Holdren as his Science Adviser last December 20, the president-elect stated "promoting science isn’t just about providing resources" but "ensuring that facts and evidence are never twisted or obscured by politics or ideology." In nominating John Holdren, his words could scarcely have taken a more Orwellian ring.

There are 15 departments of the Executive Branch created by Congress pluss 7 Executive Offices. They are approved with "advice and consent" of the Senate. The so called Czars are not approved by anyone other than the President. And, they are responible to no one other than the President. This is a New and questionable practice!

Yes, I understand that they were not elected. Is it your belief that everyone in the entire government is elected? That previous Presidents had no one running programs who were not elected? Were the "drug czars" elected? How about the National Security Adviser? How about Bush's science adviser, John Marburger, who had EXACTLY THE SAME JOB? Was he elected? Come on.
