Obama: Stimulus “Has Worked As Intended”...Really?

President Barack Obama said his $787 billion stimulus bill “has worked as intended” as he pushed back against Republican criticism that his recovery program has failed to rescue the economy.

Hey Charlie, you have the right to call my comment senseless. Just having a little fun. Honestly though, it is undeniable that BO's approval rating is consistently declining. This move of socialism is not going over well because in our hearts we will always be Americans and proud of it.

This President really has no credibility with me, as unimportant as I am in the scheme of things, let me say, does he mean to say that he wanted to screw the economy up worse than it was when he took over? Get us to double digit unemployment? Hope by 2012 to get us back to about 7.5 to 8%, which was his worst forecast if he didn't get the stimulus? and then by 2012 be able to say he turned it arond? Then all we will have to do is pay off the trillion or so $ deficit!

Why have they escaped being skewered by your rapier wit? Your thoughts will have to stand on their own because they have very little to support them.

Normally, anyone who has spent any appreciative time in the military is not inclined to get their education from reading Democrat bumper stickers.

Hi Special:
See response below to Wendy. Then get back to me. And, the comment on your username was not an attack. It just strikes me as odd that so many on this site cite their military credentials. I served proudly, many of my "liberal" friends served proudly, and we don't view many of the conservatives as especially patriotic. After all, it was the conservatives that tried to vote down the recent expanded GI bill because they were afraid it would give soldiers a reason to leave the service. That is not patriotic, it is not supporting our military, and I don't understand why so many of you fail to see it.

I'd like to know how "proudly" you served actually. Did you get your bonus and then get out, or just get your college fund and get out? Doing time in the military just for a benefit is not "serving proudly". Did you retire charlie? Did you serve your country until by regulation you couldn't serve anymore? Or did you get out once you realized that you couldn't hack it and you had gotten all you could for yourself?

I run a small business and my business is hurting more in the past 4 months than it was at the beginning of the year or last year. So, if the stimulus is working, why is my business on the books worse now than ever before??? Sorry by my software Quick Books does not lie and I see the reports and charts, my business is in the red now and making less money than ever. I had my largest cut backs two months ago. This is small family owned 2 man operation and in business for 17 years. Last year we were doing okay, but it had slowed, but we were able to make ends meet and keep afloat. About 3 to 4 months ago, we saw a drastic drop in services and this month is even worse. Sorry, I just do not see the stimulus working.

Charlie, earlier you blamed the Republicans for the economic mess. The truth is that the congressional democrats started the ball rolling on this economic collapse because they refused to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, despite the Republicans warning them a crisis was about to happen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MGT_cSi7Rs
Blaming Bush is REALLY getting old. Please, let's be honest and real. We are all in this together. The only thing that matters is the truth... not angry opinions.

Hi Wendy. Respectfully, you are wrong about the cause of the meltdown; you have heard that so much from Fox News that all of you now believe it. This economic mess was created mostly by the greed on Wall Street and the failure of the administration to regulate it. It was the free market without checks and balances, pretty much the way the conservatives have always wanted it. I AM being honest and real; and I'm suggesting to you that what many of you are doing is criticizing Barack (thanks for the spelling tip, Mersey) for trying to find his way through a mess that he and the democratic congress did not create. And, many of you are suggesting that the same things that got us in this mess (lower taxes, unregulated capitalism) is somehow going to get us out of it. It does not make sense to me and I can't understand why it makes sense to so many of you.

I am afraid is YOU who does not know what you're talking about, Charlie. In 2004, the Bush administration advised Congress, more specifically, Barney Frankfurter that Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac needed to be looked at. (I'm putting it mildly). Look at the video of what Frank, Dodd and Reins all said, then tell me again what caused the meltdown.

Sorry Charlie you are wrong on this one and Wendy is correct and the NY times posted it back in 1999. A liberal paper. http://www.nytimes.com/1999/09/30/business/fannie-mae-eases-credit-to-ai.... They were in fact the start of the crisis, of the mortgage failure. The Republicans did try to regulate it and Barney and them fought them on it. In fact Barney Frank only a couple weeks prior to the meltdown said quote "Fannie Mae and Freddie Mack are fundamentally sound" unquote. Now, Bush administration did not help by spending either. So the Bush administration has their hands in this too. But you are blind and uninformed if you do not realize the Democrats forced the banks to give risky loans to people who could not afford them. This creates a domino effect. Foreclosures on people that could not afford homes, then from there, people who could afford the mortgages, no longer have home worth what they were and now they are in the red. Both Dems and Reps are too blame.

There may be truth to dumBO's statement. Since they have only spent about 10% of the money obligated and the rest due to release in 2010 before the election. I am sure its "intent" is to get Dems re-elected in 2010, why else would you hold back on so much of the money until 2010 when people need jobs NOW.

It seems to be fun for Republicans to choose to ignore the fact that NO ONE claimed the stimulus would be in full effect at this time. And of course, it's easy to judge it negatively when more than half of the money hasn't even been spent yet. Considering that nearly every state in the country has budget problems, I'm sure the cops and teachers who still have jobs because of stimulus funds don't share your narrow-minded views.
So by all means, keep screaming! Use it for a little short-term obstructionism. When all the money has been spent, and the economy does recover, it should be just in time for the next round of congressional elections...

Oldboy, they say that wisdom comes with age. Obviously, that is not always the case. Nothing in the stimulus bill is designed for long term employment, especially in the private section. Most, if not all, of the new jobs are in the government and those in the states have limited funding which means if the local or state government do not have the necessary funding to continue this, these people will be jobless. It is all for show so that some simpletons will believe that it is working. Let the people keep their money and make the decision how to spend it. There are too many datapoints that show the government is not suited to do this.

Well this is one Independent that thought, since they rushed the bill thru without reading, that they would have spent more than 10% of the money. And according to the GOA, the money has been primarily used by states to reduce their own budgets and debt and not for new "shovel ready" jobs which was the intent we were told it was to be used for.

Geez, it was intended to work in 18 months. What a coincidence that the economy is suppose to trun around in time for the 2010 elections. It will never happened that quickly. The libs. have been bad-mouthing the economy now for over 3 years and just his majesty announcing that it is working is not enough. The best stimulus is to let the people keep their money and make the decision on how to spend it themselves.
