FOX Nation Victory! Obama's Drive for Climate Change Bill Delayed!

President Barack Obama's push for quick action by Congress on climate change legislation suffered a setback on Thursday when the U.S. Senate committee leading the drive delayed work on the bill until September. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairman Barbara Boxer said her self-imposed deadline of early August for finishing writing a bill to combat global warming has been put off until after Congress returns from a recess that ends in early September.

What is the liberal excuse for the current global cooling trend?

I've already answered this, and it's not a liberal excuse, it's the explanation provided by climate scientists (that's part of your problem: you're confusing politics and science). But here it is again:
.
Do a mental experiment. Picture a graph of temperatures over the last, say, 100 years, without global warming. The numbers don't matter, just picture its wavy appearance as we go through natural periods of relatively warmer and cooler weather. Now take the graph and make all the bars a little bit taller. That's global warming. It's still wavy, isn't it?
.
In other words, there will always be periods of general warming and cooling. It will just be a little warmer or a little less cool than it would have been.
.
There's a second part of this explanation that has to do with signal (climate) vs. noise (weather) that I can go into if needed.

Well, considering that you still don't appear to understand what I was saying, and that you consistently misrepresent my points, and that you ask here questions that I already answered ("Why do CO2 increases follow temperature increases?"), I'm not sure that you've "gathered" much of anything.
.
I'm happy for you that you managed to find a scientist on your side, even one whose speciality is biophysics and not climate science. Never mind that for every scientist who agrees with you, there are ten or so who don't. But when I see someone who ignores the views of 90% of climate scientists while touting as unimpeachable truth the views of the remaining 10%, I have to think that there is something at work other than science.

So from this conversation I gathered from you that... global warming and cooling is natural, and that there is no evidence that man-made CO2 has an impact on temperatures. The mind game is not evidence. And the number I previously stated (0.117%) was not produced by a coal mining engineer, is was reposted by him. Try Dr. Gregory Young, neuroscientist and physicist, a doctoral graduate of the University of Oxford, Oxford, England. Additionally why has the temperture increased proportionately with CO2 increase? Why do CO2 increases follow temperature increases? As the earth warms from natural cycles, ice melts, oceans rise, and atmospheric CO2 increases as CO2 resolves from ocean water. Because ocean temperatures are also increasing during interglacials, CO2 trajectory follows temp. CO2 is not the cause, it is simply another effect of warming because cold water dissolves more gas than warm. Folks fail to mention that sea ice has increased. The earth for 500 million years has had CO2 levels as high as 7000 PPM (when life began), the current levels are 380 PPM, but the temp has not risen over 22 degrees C, it's currently around 12. That show no direct correlation between temp and CO2. How did life on earth survive that?

Never mind. You clearly don't understand what I'm saying. It's a concept that you just don't seem to be getting. The actual numbers don't make any difference at all. It's like using X and Y in an equation like Y = X + 1. The value of X makes no difference. Y is one more than X no matter what X is. If you truly do not understand why temperatures will continue to go up and down in the face of AGW, there's nothing more I can say other than to suggest that you read some science written by scientists and avoid blog posts by coal mining engineers as your source of research on climate.

And can you provide some data that shows what the actual temperature would be with the absence of man-made CO2

so you're saying the natural process of warming and cooling that last for hundreds of years is ilrelevant? Only the warming for the past hundred years is relevant? that doesn't make sense. if the previous warming period lasted for 500 years, and last last cooling period lasted for 300 years, then it may be logical to conclude that your 100 year graph may not be enough data to conclude anything and is looking very similar to the beginning of the prior warming period, just 400 years shorter. I don't disagree that the temperature is rising. I dispute the thought that this is something new, and dispute the theory that it's caused by man. There is no scientific fact that it is due to CO2, no scientific fact that it is due to man made CO2, and no scientific fact that it is due to anything other than natural phenomena

See, this is why I don't think you're really trying to follow the logic of what I'm saying. I specifically said, "Picture a graph of temperatures over the last, say, 100 years" and then you ask what kind of graph and start talking about the Medieval warm period and the Little Ice Age and variances in insolation. None of that is relevant to what I'm saying. It doesn't matter what graph you use. This is just a mind experiment to show why there will be relatively cool periods even if AGW exists. Just picture a graph of annual temperatures. It goes up and down. Now add AGW: make all the bars a little bit taller. It STILL goes up and down. It doesn't change the up-and-down nature of the graph in the slightest. There are still warmer periods and cooler periods. This is the basic answer your question about the explanation for the current "cooling trend". It's a natural cooling; it's just a little bit warmer than it would have been without AGW. It will be followed sooner or later by a natural warming, and again it will be just a little warmer than it would have been. Then there will be another cooling period. Get it?

solar activity also corresponds with your wavy line. That was just looking at wavy lines for the past 1000 years. If we look at wavy lines for the, say past 500,000 years, they are still wavy as they go up really high, and as they dip down really low. Again still showing a natural pattern of very high temperatures and very low temperatures. The Earth has been warmer than it is now. Comparing the CO2 levels during these warm times of history, today's CO2 levels are higher, but the temperature isn't following in the same ratio

what kind of graph are you referring to? Th rise in tempurature during the Medieval Warm period was wavy on the way up too. That lasted for 500 years. Then just after that it was wavy on the way down during the little Ice Age. That lasted 300 years. After around 1850 it started going back up, again a wavy line. Wow that's weird we came out of the Little Ice Age and returned to average tempuratures around the time you folks claim global warming started due to human industry. You think maybe it was just a natural cycle. The natural warming of the Earth probably contributed to man creating industry. We are biologically more productive during warmer weather. Where's my Nobel Prize?

"so cooling=natural and warming=manmade": I have no idea how you came to this conclusion. It's certainly not what I said. Did you even try to follow the logic? AGW rides on top of natural warming and cooling cycles. The averages are just a little bit higher than they would have been, so they will still go up and down in cycles just like they always have. NOTHING in climate science says that they won't.

This is the myth that just won't die. Go read some of that stuff from the 70s (here's an example: http://tinyurl.com/2toxfa). They were trying to explain an OBSERVED cooling, not predicting cooling. It's not the same thing. The whole article is about "IF this continues...". No one in there says that it WILL continue. Even in the 70s, most climate scientists predicted warming, not cooling.

It's pretty easy to simply claim that something is nonsense without backing it up. I provided a link to one of the articles people always refer to when they claim that scientists were predicting an ice age. Did you read it? Did you find any predictions? Do you have some evidence that I'm wrong and that a significant portion of climate scientists WERE predicting an ice age in the 70s? I'd like to see such evidence, because no one else has been able to find it. If you have any facts, can we hear them?
