Powell Criticizes Obama, Defends Sotomayor, Jabs Rush
Colin Powell, one of the nation's most prominent African-Americans, is going after people who attacked Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor because of her stand in favor of affirmative action. Powell, who's from the same Bronx neighborhood in New York as Sotomayor, said she should face "a spirited set of hearings" in the Senate. But he said the federal appeals court judge, who would be the first Hispanic justice, shouldn't be condemned for ruling against white firefighters who contended they suffered reverse discrimination.

General Powell - a little too late to start the cirtical review of the clown you supported . . .General you should have know that this "commander in chief" is more akin to the head of a neighborhood gang than anything else. man i am reading through these blogs and some of you are not even tolerant of people that would stand next to you in battle on almost all these subjects. Thats pitiful what i am saying as agroup some of you are just too dang perfect. you can tell for the most part when an idiot is on this site attack them not each other some of you tend to act like a bunch bad dogs,and may need need a good swift kick to the ribs so youll put your teeth up for a second. you will never defeat the enemy if all you can do sling insults and try and outsmart eachother. divide and conquer. we need a corporate take over which requires strategy and togetherness even if we dont all agree with all the fine print ,point it out but dont chop there head of in the mean while. one more out of wack thought from me and ill quit look to our past were things really began to come apart . Changing your mind about what suit to wear is one thing. Changing your mind from the role, size and fiscal responsibilty of government is something else entirely. This is an indication that Mr. Powell has no clear vision of the direction our country should take. If his core principles can fluctuate to these extremes in this short amount of time, we don't need to be listening to him.

i read on here that people change their mind, well thats true to a point. but do people change their mind on core values? does someone say oh i think abortion is wrong on Monday and then on Tuesday say oh i think it's OK? NO......... they don't not people well grounded in core beliefs. so the only conclusion one can reach is that Powell doesn't have core values when it come to politics. if you have believed that smaller government is the way to go then how do you vote for bigger government? either you believe in fiscal responsibility or you believe that government can solve all problem. these things can't be had both ways.

Colin Powell's comments are timely and welcome. Whatever his views are on any subject, they reflect well reasoned thoughts of an honorable and independent man. Republicans lost power when they lost the independent vote; let us hope Powell's comments are a harbinger of the future.

See, this is one of the problems so many conservatives have. You think that if you support someone you have to agree with everything he does; that if you don't support someone you have to disagree with everything he does; and that there's something dishnorable about changing you mind even when the evidence shows that you were wrong. Anything else is "flip flopping". But here are some better words for it: common sense, integrity, honesty, and independence.

Leaders don't lead from the middle of the pack, they lead from the front. You can't keep throwing dust in the wind to see which way it's blowing and hope to catch on somewhere. Powell is casting about like a lost soul looking for a team to follow. I respect his service to our country but his time is yesterday not tomorrow.

We need a leader to step up, it probably aint powell but who knows maybe but we have to have someone lead this country with some common sense and some common american values. Someone with thick skin and a proud hard headed american who believes in the foundation of this country and cant be shaken there. Sadly, you must now suffer the consequences of your choice to be a 'mug-wump.' You cannot be effective in politics or anything else with your 'mug' on one side of the fence, and your 'wump' on the other, General Powell.
You might be able to salvage some credibility, and honor, if you were to at least offer your apology to the Conservative populace for your dastardly decision, or perhaps more precisely explain to us what it was that truly moved you to depart from us on the political path in the first place.
