Sam: It's Hard to Forgive Bible-Thumping GOPers for Sex Scandals
ABC's Sam Donaldson appeared on Thursday's Good Morning America to talk about the developing Mark Sanford scandal and loudly assert that it's hard to forgive Bible-thumping Republicans for their sexual transgressions. He began by deriding, "The problem Republicans have, so many of them are sanctimonious." The longtime contributor continued his attack on members of the GOP who get caught up in sex scandals: "They thump the Bible. They condemn everyone else, and when they- human- they don’t have much credit in the bank for forgiveness."

What you said makes as much sense as saying, an American named Sanford committed adultery, therefore all Americans are adulterers. Where were you when Spitzer disgraced himself? Sam Donaldson must not be a Christian, the thing is just this simple, we all fall short of the Gory of God. It is a constant struggle and some fall, the good news is that God will forgive and commands all of us to forgive as well, (you see he leads by example.) Yes, he may need to give up the govenorship. When we fall short, there are consequences for our actions and we all must pay the cost, just as Christ did for us. Now can we move on, and get on with the counrtries business, as they are destroying us, in Washington and just trying to keep this disgrace in the fore front to keep us off the focus of what they are doing to our country.

So beautifully said and so true. Mr. Donaldson does not appear to know the freedom of forgiveness. There are consequences for all who make bad choices and we all have.This is no excuse for Gov. Sanford's behavior but merely a fact. In Mr. Donaldson's case , I believe that he is the one who is being sanctimonius. Is he without sin?

I agree there are Dems who have faith and values. The problem is they are the minority. The far left will take any opportunity to say the republicans are condeming them. Republicans don't condem them they love them. It's kinda like the parent and the child. The parent loves the child and child blames the parent when they don't get what they want. One day the chilld usually grows up and realizes the parent was only providing guidence. The parent lets the child go eventually hoping they don't end up liberals for the rest of thir life. But sometimes they do and they misread the guidence loving republicans give. Do what you want just be sure to grow up eventually. Your mom will love you for it. Also liberals used to be about helping people, but it seems lately they just want to make single parent homes, play god with featuses, and give abortions to people in other countries to reduce other coutries populations with my money.

The Dems neither ask for, nor expect, forgiveness. Without a set of values or a sense of morality, forgiveness is pointless.

Forgiveness is done more for the forgiver than it is for the forgiven, When one withholds forgiveness it far worse for them, than the one asking. So it would be pointless to ask for forgiveness if one is not contrite for what ever they are asking forgiveness for. But it is not the forgivers job to make that conclusion, it is to forgive or not.

I don't have any problem with Sam Donaldson commenting on what Mark Sanford did! What I have a problem with is the 'Bible thumping Republican" statement not only was that unprofessional of him. He used that comment to make fun basically of Christian conservatives and Republican. What happened to “politically correctness" to me that is just as hypocritical as what Mark Sanford did! I believe that Mark Sanford can be forgiven by his wife and God but I also believe that you have to be held accountable for your action! Christians have a saying “Don’t just talk the walk, walk the walk”. Live the life you say you live and be accountable for the messes you make.

After reading many of the comments, I'm surprised that almost all of you don't understand what it is to be a Christian. There has only been one perfect person on earth. THAT'S CHRIST!! The rest of us use the Bible as our road map. We strive to walk in CHRISTS footsteps and follow his teachings which are found in the Bible. The problem comes because we are not perfect, we fail, not because we want to but because we are human. I'm sure that the Gov. knew he was going in the wrong direction and I would think that his conscience was bothering him, but he was thinking with the thing in his pants and not with his brain or heart. I know that God will forgive him, "If he really means it" but we as human will use this experience to judge his character which ha been severly damaged.

Sanford needs to resign. Period. We shouldn't defend him just because he's from our party. That makes us no better than the Dems.
