I believe the Republicans are being set up. I think they would be wise to give this woman a pass, as much as I would like it to be otherwise. First, George H. W. Bush nominated Sotomayor as a federal judge in 1991. For the Republicans to now go against her would look foolish. It accomplishes nothing. She replaces a liberal Supreme Court Justice so no net gain. It would just alienate the Hispanic vote. It is one of those pick your battles type items. If Republicans want to win the war, bypass this battle as you gain nothing but have more to lose.

Nice life story but "PRETTY IS, AS PRETTY DOES."
Obama’s nominee to the Supreme Court, Federal Appeals Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor, is but a REFLECTION of Barry Soetoro aka/alias Barack Hussein (Mohammed) Obama, and will - in the end - but do Obama's bidding... like the White House Staff, present Administration, and Congress.

Sotomayor will be confirmed. Republicans can't fight this one. Her ethnicity should not be an issue when selecting for such a critical job , but it is. Sadly, this is the world we now live in. She is racist, sexist and doesn't know her job as a judge- which is to follow the Constitution. She believes her job gives her the power to make policy and she will try to do that at every opportunity. The Republicans aren't the only ones who lose, the whole country loses with this choice.

I don't understand why the leading supporters of abortion on demand in all nine months of pregnancy are minorities. Why don't they want equality for these people as well? Dems usually fight for those without a voice. Why not the child in womb? Obama and Sotomayer are hypocritical.

Mrs. Sotomayer seems like a very good person. I think her supreme court overturn rate shows she is a good minor league player and not able to be in the big show.
Keep in mind folks; Yale, Harvard, and Stanford graduate more than 1 lawyer per decade. So, this idea that we are stuck with her because of her education is bogus. There are many other qualified lawyers out there.
I am hispanic, my mother is a hispanic women. She raised me and I have Ph.D. in engineering. I do not think that qualifies me to be the Best of the engineers. Over the years, as my resume grows, the contents that is what should be used to make that determination; not my race.

By that logic, Chef Justice Roberts isn't ready for the "big show" either. They are the same age, graduated from Ivory League Schools, both on their law review.
Now there are some differences, in their short career's Sotomayor became one of the youngest judges appointed to the federal courts. It would seem that Sotomayor has been on a fast track to the "big show". She's a centralist with a great background and history of making sound legal judgments. The fact that she is Hispanic is only relevant because she's the first Hispanic to be nominated for such an honor. It is not a factor in her selection.

Gay Ray,
I am afraid that if you think she has made sound judicial decisions, then you might want to examine your own perceptions with respect to racisim and sexism. When will getting even with the white man be enough for you people? White guilt is no longer a potent force among some of us who have faced the power of Affirmative Action. Do you know why? If you don't than you never heard the old reframe: "two wrongs don't make a right".

Sotomayor represents everything Obama stands for and is the perfect Obama choice. She will decide every case upon the basis of what is best for who ever she likes that day. Usually it will be her gang, but she will be open to being bought by whoever can get her to agree with them. She will make sure Obama and his friends are not held back by something as unimportant as a Constitution or a legislative law. Obama's gang will make the rules with her help and we will be jailed if we do not do as we are ordered.

Sotomayor will be confirmed but should she...
Everyone asks if she is qualified. Of course she is, there are basically no qualifications to be on the Supreme Court, minus the legal authority. The question is should she? My opinion on the matter is "no". She has said that the "Appeals Court is where policy is made." Sorry Sonia darling but there are three branches of government and you are not in the legislative. Your only job is to rule on cases according to the Constitution. Not what the constitution should say but what it says, and if it is to change, the legislators will change it. One more point. Remember the statue outside the court houses where she is blindfolded holding up a set of scales. This represents that law is to be blind. That means it doesn't matter what your income, race, and ideology, etc, are, the law is ruled the same way and as in many of her cases, she has ruled on the side of these characterizes. That is not your job.

I was watching both Hannity and on the Record with Greta Van Susteren about Obama’s pick for the Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor. Everything that I have heard about her tells me that she is radical liberal and she even said that the Court is there to make policy.
The Republicans in the senate have a way to stop her, according to Karl Rove. In order for her to be confirmed, at least one Republican has to vote for her in committee. If no Republicans vote for her in committee, then the confirmation can not go to the floor of the senate for confirmation. These are the Republicans on the Judicial Committee:
Jeff Sessions, R-Alabama
Orrin G. Hatch, R-Utah
Charles E. Grassley, R-Iowa
Jon Kyl, R-Arizona
Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina
John Cornyn, R-Texas
Tom Coburn, R-Oklahoma
We have to demand that WE THE PEOPLE stop this confirmation by making sure that these senators vote no in committee for the confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor for Associate Justice for the Supreme Court.

Is it always racist if someone does not agree with someone of color? Obama was not black enough until he won the nomination and then he was the blackest black that ever blacked. Rappers hated him in their music and then they loved him and wore t-shirts proclaiming their love. I have had many friends of color tell me that they voted for him because he was black and no other reason. This is how he won, race not experience and that is the problem I have. Our Country is being challenged more now then ever before because Obama has shown the World that he is weak and thus America is weak. The World's hate for us is due to strong policy or defense for us and others who always call when they are in trouble. We disrupted terrorism under Bush and that pissed many off and disrupted Oil for weapons for France and Russia. Now, Obama is trying to make friends instead of protecting this Country and he is working to make this a Wellfare state with all the entitlements for the poor. I am not racist, I am affraid for our future under a man who follows the words of Saul Alinsky and Frank Marshal Davis.
