'A Sin'

There’s been quite an uproar since President Obama was invited to give the commencement address at Notre Dame. For me, the mere fact that the president has agreed to give a speech is not the problem. What troubles me more is the honorary law degree the university plans to bestow on him. THAT’S the problem.

Obama is pro killing unborn babies- Catholicism is against killing unborn babies- invitation should not have been given- and invitation should not have been accepted! Simple and truthful on both sides- don't muddle it up with politics and maybe yes and maybe no- the whole thing is wrong and should not occur.

This man;s lying conduct is a disgrace to all citizens. He is against the belief's of Catholics and should not have been asked to speak at any Catholic University. I belive that Pope Benedict should demand that Obama not be allowed to speak, and if notre dame does't withdraw the offer he should remove the responsible parties from their positions at the University. A Catholic who is feed up with Obama.

Notre Dame demonstrated naivete by not only inviting President Obama to speak at commencement but also honoring him with the law degree, Perhaps, the President demonstrated the same naivete by accepting the invitation. However, my thought, given his "in your face" appointments and statements that are antithetical to Catholic beliefs, is that he views this speaking engagement as his saying, "Hey, my thumb's in your eye and you still are in awe to have me speak....Suckers!' This is a case of a university being star struck over bagging a president to speak, without regard for the standards of its supposed beliefs. Have the dude speak, but don't be ridiculous conferring a degree.

I am neither a Catholic nor a believer, but what Obama has done to promote abortion is disgusting and immoral. Norte Dame should recind the invitation. This phony is obviously neither a Christian or an American. He is a far left radical liberal socialists. We all need to be very wary of all that he has done and will do in the future if he is not stopped. We must speak out and do all we can to keep him from being re-elected. Hopefully there will be cause to impeach him before he destroys all of our freedoms.

I wake every morning with a tear in my eye at how Our United States of America is being destroyed by the likes of anti Americans like Barrack Hussein Obama and President Palosi. Never in my life did I think that America would ever be this close to becomming a Socialist/Totalitarian country.
I am not surprised by ND's invitation to BHO. The people running our colleges, be them Christian based or not ,have contributed to the dumbing of America for years. Fortunetly they haven't completely succeeded when you hear the outrage being voiced.
During the race for presidency, before this Anti American was elected, I asked my boss, who is a Primary Care Physician in NJ, how he could be so pro Obama after all the issues with ACORN, Ayers and Wright and the connections with radical Muslims.....His response "What is ACORN, Ayers and Wright?"...THESE ARE THE KIND OF PEOPLE WHO VOTED FOR THIS ARROGANT ANTI AMERICAN! My response to my boss was that anyone who didn't care about these issues and didn't atleast research them is a crappy American and has no right to vote without educating himself on the candidates first. Oh to be so ignorant. This ignorance is what got us into this mess!
Our voting teens and college students are so brainwashed by the lies being taught in text books. History is so twisted and purposely taught to the most vulnerable of generations.
Obama and Pelosi's agenda is to destroy America as we know it. We are no longer The UNITED STATES of America.
My new prayer for each day is that The Holy Spirit enlightens Pelosi and Barrack Hussein Obama and if that's impossible, enlighten someone else to find a way to get them both out of office.
OBAMA: One Big A&% Mistake, America......God help us ALL!

One quick question should be answered by everyone involved here. Is this all about a President speaking that has a view counter to Catholic teaching, or the fact you don't like the President that will be speaking.
Before you answer that, reflect on this, Both President Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush were invited to and then spoke at Notre Dame University. Both of these Presidents were public supporters of capitol punishment and the death penalty, which is also against the teaching of the Catholic Church.
(Following is the statement on the death penalty from AmericanCatholic.org
"The Catholic Church opposes the death penalty in nearly all cases. Pope Benedict XVI, Pope John Paul II, U.S. bishops and other Catholic leaders throughout the world have spoken out against capital punishment as act that stands in contradiction to the belief that all human life is sacred.")
When Presidents Regan and Bush spoke, I don't recall anyone have a problem with their beliefs that didn't follow the teaching of the Catholic Church. If you want to withhold funding, then should these two ex presidents be included in the argument that Notre Dame has a history of inviting speakers that disagree with Catholic teaching.
Again, ask yourself, are you upset because you don't like the speaker doesn't agree with all the Catholic teachings, or do you not like the speaker.

As a Catholic, I am upset by the adoption of a 'political correctness' climate which deems this address acceptable. As Catholics, we are charged with the moral responsiblity, in my opinion, of advocating the truths, tenets, principles and teachings of the Church in our church funded institutions..one of the most recognized being Notre Dame University. He has in his first 60 days advanced legistlation to change stem cell research beyond our moral boundaries, and require Catholic doctors, nurses & health care workers to acquiese under law to engage in abortions. He is challenging our institutions and will change them forever, if gone unchecked. This is a moral choice for Notre Dame and there should be no ego driven issues of Obama being the POTUS captivating them...It should not be his decision not to speak...it should be ND's decision to uninvite him to speak. This is the moral imperitive!

This is politically driven nonsense. Let's use some logic for a change...
The Catholic Church does not allow for the use of contraception. Should students who have used contraception at Notre Dame also then be prohibited from receiving their degrees?
If Obama should not receive an honorary degree for disagreeing with the Church on abortion, then by the same logic, students should not receive a degree if they disagree with one of the tenants of the Church. If we held students, professors, and finger-pointing critic to the same standard, the commencement ceremony would be an empty stage and a field of empty chairs.

Speaking at a Catholic commencement is bad enough-after all, the speech is supposed to guide the graduates, and offer them helpful advice. (But what kind of advice has Obama ever given that was "helpful" to Catholics? He is an Obamanation.) And no, graduates do not have to be or hold Catholic values to get a degree. But these unbelievers-if they promote non-Catholic sins such as abortion-should not be allowed to speak at commencement, either. AS FOR THE DEGREE, well, that is an HONOR. And Obama shound NOT BE HONORED at a Catholic university, since he openly commits scandal, and is not repentant for such scandal. Let him come and hold a discussion about politics, since he is a politician. But NO SPEECH and NO HONORS for a
man who does the work of the devil-who is the ENEMY of Catholics. I repeat,
WHY SHOULD CATHOLICS HONOR SOMEONE WHO DOES THE DEVIL'S WORK?

The right thing to do would be to NOT issue Obama an honorary degree or for President Obama to decline the invitation to speak.
BUT since we are not a nation of Christians I guess Mr. Obama does not see where the controversy lies. He needs to step up and do the right thing but in light of everything else he has done I cannot see this happening. I suppose he will want to 'invite' the Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers and the long list of other radicals that 'groomed' him for the presidency in be in the audience.
I was raised a Catholic but am not a practicing Catholic anymore but I understand how sacred the meaning of life is to those in the Catholic church.
I still do not understand why the Pope did not excommunicate Speaker Pelosi. So I am glad the Catholic's of this country are standing up for this. If those things held sacred no longer matter then what to we have left??
Mr. Obama - do the right thing and either politely decline the invitation to speak or if you feel you MUST speak then decline the degree. Stop trying to tear this country apart!!!!

If Obama earned a law degree at Notre Dame, of course, he should get it. You are missing the point. Because Obama is so pro-abortion, he should never have been invited.

It's one thing to attend classes which you paid for which if you succeed will lead to a law degree for a noncatholic to get his or her law degree but his is so different it is an honorary issue. We Catholics honor our God and believe in the Ten Commandments which do not allow the killing of life. You might not agree but it is our belief. Don't like it go else where. That's what so great about this country you don't have to believe as I do but it is my right to have my religion. What ND has done is simply against our core principles. We respect the office of President but not the beliefs of this president. Therefore no honarary degree and no platform provided by us. ND should be ashamed.

I think there is a significant difference between a university, having been founded on Catholic principles, educating persons of diverse faiths and political beliefs, and that university providing a forum for someone, who presumes to speak for this "nation of citizens", who, by his official acts, has demonstrated his contempt for human life in all of its stages. He and his ilk (Pelosi, Biden, Kennedy, and all other ersatz "Catholics", who are a scandal and disgrace to their professed faith) should be banned from propogating, at an institution that should be upholding the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death, their morally and scientifically absurd views of the world.

Granting a degree to someone who enters the university, studies as required and ultimately meets all requirements is essentially different than granting an honorary degree. In the frist case the university is not endorsing the beliefs of the grantee, but rather declaring that they have met all requirements. In the case of the honorary degree, the university is expliciting noting that the honoree is someone who embodies the principles of the university; is someone that the university wants people to associate with it. Clearly Obama is not the paragon of Catholic virtue, especially as it pertains to the Church's stand on abortion as clearly laid out by the Holy Father.
