I believe President Obama thought about the gift giving very carefully...even though they do seem inappropriate. I thought he was sending a message..."is it really better to receive than to give" (help that is).

This article doesn't mention that the 25 DVDs given were all R2 DVDs, which don't work on players in Europe. That part was pretty great.

Hey Crys... Excellent point ! However, there may be some good news here for the Prime Minister. He can probably get some "Boot-Leg" software off the internet to allow his DVD player to play R2 DVD's. If that doesn't work, he can buy a R2 Player off of eBay. It appears that they have little over sight on Government spending as well. Who cares what the "Royal Subjects" think . They have " Taxation Without Representation" Ooh wait, I think we now have that here in the U.S. as well.....hmmm... Just a thought.... LOL

Your choice, your freedom- don't condemn us that don't demonize former President Bush. I didn't always agree with his policies or his decisions- but I don't believe in wasting energy or precious lifetime spending it in rabid, mindless hatred of the man. I love my country and want to see our elected officials remember that they work for us-- and to put the people first. Honesty and integrity seem foreign to the people we chose to represent us.

That was what FOX News reported yesterday. Bret Baier and the FOX News station in NYC reported that the Queen did indeed want a video Ipod. She already has an Ipod that she uses to listen to music on but she did not have an Ipod with video capabilities. The one that President Obama gave her was loaded with songs she likes and video footage of her trip to the US. She was also given a rare songbook signed by composer Richard Rodgers whose music she admires. According to the reports, she was delighted with the gifts.

I always thought that when you give a gift that it speaks as to what kind of person you are (i.e. practical, artsy, romantic). These gifts the great one has been giving lately, to me say that he is cheap.

It's as though you don't recall the terrible was Bush was treated for eight years, and any Republican for that matter, who might make a mistake. I hope you were also offended by the way Palin was treated and the petty things said about her. The reason Republicans are so bothered is the double standard, where a Rep. can make a tiny mistake and it's blown out of proportion, yet anything Obama or Michelle (or any dem) does is portrayed as not mistake, but "ooh, isn't that refreshing" or "daring" oohh, ahh. It's so clear the bias the media has, and most don't even report a negative story about a dem in the first place. That's why Fox's ratings are off the chart. It's the only place on TV where you might find out the whole story. Of course, you can listen to Rush Limbaugh, which is his name. The gift is a small detail, but if President Obama can't get even the simplest tasks of foriegn deplomacy correct then how is he ever going to manage the more complex issues that face us on the global stage? "IF" the Queen requested
an ipod then it was probably because she could discard it without so much as a second thought. Her Majesty can afford just about anything the world has to offer. If she really wanted one, she would already have one. You cannot suppose that this ipod will in fact be passed form generation to generation in the royal family as an heirloom that demonstrats the strength of the ties between our two great nations. And IF she did indeed request this gift then it should have been given akin to a "Christmas stocking stuffer" and not as the primary gift. Something of a more historical significance, something that reflects our mutual heratage, respect and commitment to one another should have been the center piece.
Byron, for the record, I am not as much a republican as I am a conservative and I suspect that is the case for may of the contributers on this page. As such we do not follow the dictates of any radio or cable television personality and we most certainly do not support all the actions or positions of Replican politicians. I also suspect that we can identify several on this page who are not so much Democrates as they are liberal idealoges. Conservatives determine there position on the facts as they lineup with the principles declared by our founding fathers and the God who inspired them. Tacky gift Bryon. I'm sure the Queen as better things to do then sit around listening to her IPod. Besides, I hear that Prince Harry and Prince William has had their own IPods for years and that one was given to her some years back. Definitely not an original gift. I think a sculpture of one of her favorite corgis would have been more appropriate. She would have liked that. Something personal and close to her heart.... something I'm sure that OBama knows nothing about.

Here is an idea. Instead of sticking your grandmother in a corner with her iPod, why don't you have a conversation with her about America and what made it so great for her.
