NYT Op-Ed: Conservatives Caused Ft. Hood
IN the case of Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan and the Fort Hood massacre, the verdict has come in. The liberal news media have been found guilty - by the conservative news media - of coddling Major Hasan's religion, Islam.
Liberals, according to the columnist Charles Krauthammer, wanted to medicalize Major Hasan's crime - call it an act of insanity rather than of terrorism. They worked overtime, Mr. Krauthammer said on Fox News, to "avoid any implication that there was any connection between his Islamist beliefs ... and his actions." The columnist Jonah Goldberg agrees. Admit it, he wrote in The Los Angeles Times, Major Hasan is "a Muslim fanatic, motivated by other Muslim fanatics."
The good news for Mr. Krauthammer and Mr. Goldberg is that there is truth in their indictment. The bad news is that their case against the left-wing news media is the case against right-wing foreign policy. Seeing the Fort Hood shooting as an act of Islamist terrorism is the first step toward seeing how misguided a hawkish approach to fighting terrorism has been.

Jimmy Carters failure to react to the embassy take over in Tehran caused terrorist to perceive Americans as weak and cowardly. If Carter had shown some back bone back when, I don't believe terrorist would be the threat they are today.

This has been the motivation of the New York Times for as long as I can remember. If a favorite policy of liberalism (like diversity or political correctness) is the cause of a tragety in society, blame the critics of that policy and grasp at anything for leverage. The Times wants to blame "conservative foreign policy" for what transpired at Fort Hood when it had nothing to do with that whatsoever. The grasping at straws in order to rationalize their viewpoints and feel good about themselves, is disturbing indeed. It is like looking at an alcoholic or a drug addict trying to rationalize why he or she drinks or uses giving every excuse imaginable. It is very sad. This is what you have at the New York Times particularly under the watch of Executive Editor Bill Keller and Publisher Arthur "Pinch" Sulzberger. If it was not so funny, it would be tragic.

Let us not forget some of the actual history of Desert Storm. We sided with the Saudis over disputed sideways oil drilling by Kuwait into Iraqi soil. Saddam attacked Kuwait and them we attacked him.
Bin Laden desperately wanted Al Qaeda to handle Iraq but was told by the Saudis to lay low.
Bin Laden wanted to be a hero to Islam and this crashed his dreams. The ultimate power grab. Some feel our involvement in this tribal feud fueled the horrific attack on America on 9/11.
This was definitely the creation of terrorists. Now we have to deal with them.

It's their religion - islam - that breeds hatred toward the west in general - especially Israel. Their religion dictates that they either convert or destroy "The Infidel." The Iraq and Afghan wars didn't cause 9/11, they are a result of 9/11. Most Muslims who become radical do so because of conditions in their own countries, not American policy.
