Obama Kicks Off 'Monday Night Football'
Before kickoff Monday night, the national TV audience and the crowd at Land Shark Stadium saw a taped message from President Barack Obama that saluted the contributions of Hispanics in football.
The president spoke as part of a tribute to Hispanic Heritage Month. Latino singer Marc Anthony, a Miami Dolphins minority owner, sang The Star-Spangled Banner; another Dolphins part-owner, Gloria Estefan, sang a special rendition of the Monday Night Football theme song; and the NFL's first Hispanic referee, Alberto Riveron, called the first penalty in Spanish.
