My family has been in the newspaper business for 3 generations. Guess what? When my son was growing up we told him this would no longer be a viable industry for him to be in. He graduated from college and is in another industry. My point being, the failing of the newspaper industry has been long in coming. If they have not been able to adapt with the times, they should go out of business. This is not a suprise and we as people also have a responsibility to look ahead and do the right thing by our families. It is NOT up to the government to guarantee our jobs!!!!!

I think that commuting the sentences of Ramos and Campeon was a mistake!!!
Their sentences should have been set aside, they should have been reinstated in the border patrol and all back pay for the time they served in prison should have been paid. I think that the border patrol should have the right to shoot any drug smuggler/dealer who is an illegal alien. What about the illegal aliens rights? THEY DON'T HAVE ANY RIGHTS IN THIS COUNTRY!!!

It makes one wonder when the goose-stepping and heil Obama classes
will begin and what they will cost. We all know what absolute power brings and this guy and his cohorts will not be denied.

As my mother and father used to say, the piper will have to be paid, and apparently Chris Dodd, Nancy Pelosi, and Barney Frank want the money now.

As an Illinoian, welcome to the corruption that is Illinois politicians.

I agree with Beck, but no qualifier is needed. It's unAmerican to keep ANY business afloat, newspapers included.

The Constitution doesn't say anything about levying taxes for the purpose of propping up businesses. Why not? Because for every company you prop up, there's another company that suffers. For every inefficient company getting Federa funds, there's an efficient company facing higher taxes and regulation. I'm sure Ford is glad to see Obama running GM, but I'm sure they're not fans of the fact that their tax receipts are funding their competitor.

The Constitution doesn't say that corporations should be considered people, it doesn't say anything about abortion, it says nothing about letting lobbyst sit in the Halls of Congress, it says nothing about taking over other countries, it says nothing about spending 50% of the budget on wars, it says nothing about providing Congress with healthcare, it says nothing about business people running government nor does it say anything about citizens pledging allegiance to this country's flag. There are a lot of things the Constitution doesn't mention--SO WHAT?

Aftre all, George Soros is the puppeteer that manipulates his strings, and Nancy (jack in the box) Pelosi and Harry (Las Vegas Mob) Reid are the ones that supply all the dialogue to his teleprompter. Hussein Obama has no control over anything. He is trying to Give all power to his tax dodging little buddy. Remember, participate in, or organize a tea party and REMEMBER TO VOTE IN 2010.

Great article, but I would add one thing. Look at the environmental impact. We use 100,000 trees a day for newspapers. The same people supporting this, support such things as cap and trade and other environmental policies. If they truly believed in global warming they would ditch the newspaper. Shouldn't they be touting electronic media, not propping it up a failed, environmentally wasteful product.

Glenn I totally agree, but I go one step further… it’s anti-American to prevent any company from failing. Newspapers, like any other company needs to evolve to meet the ever-changing world of technology.
The automotive industry also needs to be allowed to fail to get out from under these exuberant Union contracts that are unsustainable. The companies could then restructure with a fresh start and negotiate new contracts more conducive to healthy growth.
The banks should also be allowed to fail, as they are FDIC insured to protect the investments of the people. By bailing out the banks the government is only supporting the individuals that failed in the first place. Let them fail and the people will take their FDIC protected funds to a new bank and give that bank the opportunity to prove their abilities.
If government wants to protect the people from the impact of the failures of a company deemed “to big to fail” the government could offer grants and loans to assist private entities, to create a private company similar to the FDIC to insure the protection of the people’s investments into such companies.

I am not sure where to place these thoughts, but would approeciate to know if others think and feel the same way.
Since we no longer are engaged in a "War on Terror" and since we plan on releasing our "Gitmo guests" into our general population with our tax dollars to support them to get a "new start"..... Why don't we reclassify Nancy Pelosi's need for an Air Force Jet back to an none security risk. She can either fly commercial or take her broom but she certainly doesn't need the protection of our Air Force nor the costs for her protection and convenience....since there is no "terror" .
We need to vote for term limits and get all of our elected officials including our new President out of Washington DC.
My father was a WWII soldier from the "hills of Kentucky" and is probalby truning over in his grave watching what we are doing to this great country.....I am so frustrated and saddened....I just don't know what to do....When you call you local politician they don't get back to you nor do they seem to be concerned.
I am very happy that Fox started this website......as Glenn Beck says there are more of us out there and we want to take our country back!

The proper response to all this nonsense is calculated, reasoned intelligence. The right moment will come and using our frustration for positive action is the best answer. The current business model for newspapers is obsolecent. Even the savings of mass printing cannot overcome the distribution costs of the last mile. Why not have a news webstite where you can configure your interest and it will format your own newspaper that can be printed (or put to pdf) each day?

Obama's approach to solving the economic recession is so wrong. Since he is an activist and attorney, he does not live in nor has he lived in the real world. Doesn't he realize that all the social programs he is proposing are paid for by the private sector? Where are the incentives to US businesses? Incentives to business would encourage them to buy capital assets (machinery, buildings, equipment) that would create real jobs that last, not jobs that the private sector pays for to create time limited public jobs. Why doesn't Obama give incentives to people to buy cars and homes, without income limits? After all it is those at the higher end that can afford to spend and get the economy rolling for the entire nation.

Re: The situation the other day where a "single" officer on patrol, pulled over a family for running a red light while on thier way to the Hospital to visit thier mother in her last dying moments, I believe the officer was forced to make a bad decision due to the fact that officers today encounter every situation imaginable, with the potential for a disastrous outcome and it did. I believe that all patrols should have two officers in every patrol car. I beileve the officer made a hastily decision and would have benefitted with a partner for his protection as well as the family. Why can't we use some of the "Stimulas" money to hire more police officers everywhere.
That's My Rant.

Excellent article, Glenn. I love this new site too, Fox.
Now there's talk about bailing out newspapers?! You know, people talk about the "free market economy" in America. God, I wish we still had a free market. In a true free market, the citizens would not be forced to prop up failing businesses through taxes and the "hidden tax", which is inflation.

I'd love to read your thoughts on this question. Has there ever been put forth a single law, that if followed 100% of the time by 100% of the world's population, would result in total peace? Yes there is and it's found in Matthew 22: 37-39. Jesus said the greatest commandment ever given is to Love the Lord our God (since this is found in the Bible, our Lord would be the God of the Bible) totally and love all other people like we love ourselves. Think about it; the ramifications are totally awesome. If everyone loved God totally, we would want to please Him and honor Him by keeping His commandments (Ouch.) If we loved everyone else like we love ourselves we would want the best for them and they would want the best for us. Where is the room for hate, greed, unkindness or any of the other virtues that we have abandoned while pursuing our own selfish desires. Whatcha Think?

When Bush was in office all you heard was that the goverment was going to take away your rights guarenteed by the Constitution. OBama ran his campaign against that very thing. Well everyone who voted for OBama can now see what it feels to have your real freedoms taken from you and not even know that it is happening. When the goverment slowly takes over the major banks, manufacturing companies and the utilities you will find that no matter what you want, your life will be dictated by the person sitting in the Oval Office. When the goverment runs everthing there is no one to complain to. Want a job..shut up and work. How do you make sure that your party stays in office. Make it so hard for private business to thrive and then take the unemployeed and make them dependent on the goverment. Who votes against the one who if feeding you? The entire Congress needs to be voted out and lets start over again with term limits.....that will stop the lobbiest and bring back some sanity to the political arena. VOTE OUT PELOSI, REED, DODD etc and get rid of the real reason this country is going to HELL in a depression handbag.

What is happening to our country is terrifying. It seems that ever since the election this country has decided the constitution is just a old piece of toilet paper. Every America hater seems to be unleased and the most obvious is in our Congress. I have never contacted my govt officials as much as I ever have within the last few months. It almost seems futile. Seems this country is on a fast track to socialism and there is no way off. Elections truly do have consequences. I have always been a conservative and voted along party lines, however now I see absolutely no difference between the two parties in Congress now. I pray that integrity filled normal citizens rise up to lead this country into recovery because these bozos are out of control.
