City Sets Height Limit on Grass
Lawns with grass taller than 8 inches are now illegal in this city. Placing the restriction on unsightly yards was one of several steps the City Council took on Monday to tighten up its nuisance ordinance.
Provisions also were added to rules governing overnight parking of trucks in residential areas and “mother-in-law” apartments.
“It is unfortunate that this ordinance has been tagged as the ‘grass ordinance,’ since there is only a couple of lines in the whole ordinance addressing lawns,” Councilman Loren Simmonds said. “This is not government weighing in on little people. We are simply trying to encourage property owners to take pride in their property.”

I do agree with the comment concerning pride of ownership..however I agree that the government shouldn't be telling people how to manage their lawns..so..I guess the government will provide the money(ie..the tax payers) to hire the landscapers to keep the grass at 8" for the people that don't want to show pride of ownership in their property...sad situation...just cut you d.. grass!!!

Now I know what is meant by "green" jobs. How many people will the city hire to measure grass blades ? Will they be unionized ? If so will it be GBMU?
That is Grass Blade Measurers Union. Boy what an honor to work under that banner. If they strike, wouldn't that violate city law since the grass would grow ? They would also need more employes to administer the program.
This could become a billion dollar a year boondoggle, ust like every other program like thinking idiots come up with .

I could be mistaking, but in parts of California this is already in force……and many people agree with it. It is unsightly, but first and foremost it is dangerous especially during summer time. We had a numerous fires due to tall grass and tossed cigarette, or just spark from a lawn-mower, ………it kind of make sense……..if you will not cut your grass and when it turns in to tall dry eyesore, city will send a crew, and supply you with bill for cutting it AND hefty fine.

in our rural W.MI county they tried to give us a zoning ordinance from a metro area, we stood up to them and forced the issue to a vote. we voted it out 15 to 1 and next election voted out the commissoners that tried to force this on us and it is great having no zoning and all of our property rights

In my town in liberal MN they just come out and mow for you and then send you the bill if it s over 8 inches tall and if you don't pay the bill they add it to your local tax bill. I used to take pride in having a nice lawn but I can't even water the dam thing enough anymore in the summer months without being penalized with additonal fines because I have an irregation system and get billed an additonal 15% for that on top of my reg charge on my water bill which is already rediculous. So anyone having a sprinkler system is plainly descriminated against . Funny because my dictatorship city can water all the parks flowers and trees they want. Just a smaller version of our elitist federal governmnent.

One on property parking space for every bedroom? Good grief, would you then have a house with no yard? Most new homes built now don't have much space between houses so you can't have one long drive down the side as my neighbors do. They also do not have much yard. If you have a large family with several children and several bedrooms that could really be a problem. And silly if they are not even of driving age. I can understand too tall grass and weeds being an eye sore but also a place for varmints but not everyone can mow their lawn on schedule of the rain. Some people have to hire it done and may not can hire it as often as the city may require. Sometimes city ordinances just get too intrusive to peoples freedoms.

Had a similar encounter here in Metro Atlanta. A real, honest to goodness county cop came and said I need to mow the "monkey grass" (common name). It is normally a border planting, but mine covered a small slope leading to the road. He said, in reply to my explanation, "It doesn't matter, I am telling you it's a 'grass' and you will cut it." Pulling out a sheet he wanders the property and eyes my second car, under the carport behind the house, completely invisible from any other house or road. I didn't register it, it's for one of my kids when she goes to college.
