She Wants to Ban Guns
Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor ruled in January 2009 that states do not have to obey the Second Amendment’s commandment that the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. In Maloney v. Cuomo, Sotomayor signed an opinion of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit that said the Second Amendment does not protect individuals from having their right to keep and bear arms restricted by state governments. The opinion said that the Second Amendment only restricted the federal government from infringing on an individual's right to keep and bear arms.

What amazes me is the FOOLS that are SORE WINNERS.

Don't forget that they are now looking at a possible 25% national sales tax on EVERYTHING that we buy!!!!! They way I understand it, it is in addition to any State sales taxes, so here in California we would have close to a 35% sales tax on anything and everything!

If you are upset with what is going on in Washington, join a Tea Party group near you. We carry out PEACEFUL demonstrations in support of our rights derived from the 1st Ten amendments and against more taxation. We have no political party affiliation and Congress DOES notice and as our numbers increase they will take MORE notice. We can and do make a difference.

Read Presser v Illinois, its a more relevant case, though I think it deals more with militias.

There was a later case where a town in Illinois banned hand guns, it was appealed up to the supreme court who refused to hear it and cited presser as the reason for not hearing it as well. Though the name escapes me, Mason Grove, Macon Grove maybe?

I have been a life member of the NRA for over 35 years. After Wayne Lapierre became President I became an inactive member. Sotomayer's nomination may bring me back to active member. She does not belong with the Supremes must less be on the Supreme Court.

I agree. If you are concerned, then you should do it, but please take a course and learn how to handle the gun properly. A concealed carry course would be great. With all the craziness going on, my wife recently expressed a desire for her own gun. After visiting numerous gun dealers and letting her handle several different styles and sizes, she found one she liked and we purchased it . Now we need to get in some training.

Excellent advice for someone who has little or no experience with guns. A shotgun is best, needn't be a 12 ga.,20 is fine, bird shot is best, effective at hot zone ranges, harmless at distances, single shot is simplest and inexpensive.

I honestly was unable to follow this woman's tortured logic. Many of colleagues agree that her opinions are not well reasoned, and that her arguments are weak. We need our best and brightest on the Supreme Court. I believe this judge is well-intentioned and has a terrific success story but she is far from the best legal mind in the country.

Sotomayer has been overturned on 60% of her rulings. With this track record, her history of activism, and her position on the 2nd Amendment she is totally unacceptable as a Supreme Court Justice. Call your DEMOCRATIC Senators and insist that she not be confirmed.
