Congressman: Obamacare Will 'Shred Constitution'

(CNSNews.com) – Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.) told CNSNews.com that the health care bill pushed by the Democratic House leadership will “shred the Constitution” and that Democrats have not given Republicans “any time to showcase” their ideas on health care reform.

When CNSNews.com asked, “Are you satisfied with what the GOP has proposed thus far to counter the Democrats’ plan on health care?” Hoekstra said, “Well, I mean there’s always arguments that could be made: ‘You’ve got to be out there with a more powerful message’ and those types of things, but you know, we’re out there with a message.” Read more ...

We Can't Sit Back and Allow the Loss of Our Freedoms
*
We elect the government. It works for us. As we watch the Democrats' plans for health care take shape, we can only ask how did our government get so removed, so unbridled, so arrogant that it can tell us how to live our personal lives?
*
Last Saturday, at 11 o’clock in the evening, the House of Representatives voted by a five vote margin to have the federal government manage the health care of every American at a cost of $1 trillion dollars over the next ten years.
*
For the first time in American history, if this bill becomes law, the Feds will force you to buy insurance you might not want, or may not need, or cannot afford. If you don’t purchase what the government tells you to buy, if you don’t do so when they tell you to do it, and if you don’t buy just what they say is right for you, the government may fine you, prosecute you, and even put you in jail. Freedom of choice and control over your own body will be lost. The privacy of your communications and medical decision making with your physician will be gone. More of your hard earned dollars will be at the disposal of federal bureaucrats.
*
It was not supposed to be this way. We elect the government. It works for us. How did it get so removed, so unbridled, so arrogant that it can tell us how to live our personal lives? Evil rarely comes upon us all at once, and liberty is rarely lost in one stroke. It happens gradually, over the years and decades and even centuries. A little stretch here, a cave in there, powers are slowly taken from the states and the people and before you know it, we have one big monster government that recognizes no restraint on its ability to tell us how to live. It claims the power to regulate any activity, tax any behavior, and demand conformity to any standard it chooses.
*
The Founders did not give us a government like the one we have today. The government they gave us was strictly limited in its scope, guaranteed individual liberty, preserved the free market, and on matters that pertain to our private behavior was supposed to leave us alone.
*
In the Constitution, the Founders built in checks and balances. If the Congress got out of hand, the states would restrain it. If the states stole liberty or property, the Congress would cure it. If the President tried to become a king, the courts would prevent it.

Where in Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution does Congress have the delegated power to force us to buy anything, with the threat of fines and imprisonment? They don't! Come on Republicans! It's not about "our ideas vs their ideas"! Shout if from the housetops! It's unconstitutional!

I don't know if if I want any of these guys on Capital Hill as my lawyer. They can argue all they want on the hill, but until a health Coverage MANDATE is passed there is nothing to be unconstiutional. I am going to contact my Sen and Rep Offices and ask who will be going to Federal court to put a stay on any action that MANADATES health coverage. What we need to do NOW is get prepared IN CASE they manage to pass MANDATED Health Coverage.

From the Blaylock Wellness Report;
Dear friend,
If you think we've got problems with our healthcare system now, just wait until you see what your government has in store for you . . .
President Obama is pushing nationalized health insurance via the so-called public option, which is the first step toward socialized medicine.
All Republicans and at least a few Senate Democrats will vote against this now. But the compromise legislation will almost certainly include a "trigger" to adopt the public option in just a few years!
This is a sneaky backdoor way into socialized medicine.
This "trigger" will force the establishment of a government-run plan after the insurance companies fail to meet impossibly high standards for expanded coverage and reduced costs.
And that opens the door for the government takeover!
The loons behind this scheme actually believe a government takeover of healthcare will lower costs, even as it improves quality and expands coverage to all!
Of course that's impossible, and Medicare should be the obvious proof of that!

Obama runs the risk of becoming another Jimmy Carter. If you remember in '76, the Democrats had a majority in Congress and the presidency. Carter tried to accommodate not only the remnants of the GOP; but also fellow Democrats that opposed him. The result was that Carter was seen for the weak and ineffectual president that he was. Obama must grab the bull by the horns, publicly state that he can govern without a single GOP vote in Congress, meet with the Democratic opposition privately and let them know just how difficult he can make things for them if they don't tow the party line. It's one thing to get elected. It's another perform the job well. At least Obama was elected and did not obtain office by voter fraud. I can't believe the news stories about "Town Meetings" and these trailer trash Americans cheering for the insurance companies against there own best interests. If they're for real, then the best thing I ever did in my life was immigrate to the UK!

Does any one disagree that "all American citizens should have health coverage?"
The only way to ensure this if you believe it is to enforce this rule. Some of us are too stupid to realize that they need a health plan.
I don't see how the "Constitution is being shredded" over this.
Please explain how our founding fathers detailed Health Insurance in the Constitution.

I absolutely disagree that any American is entitled to government provided health insurance. Perhaps if you actually READ the Constitution it would help. Start with Article 1, Sections 8 and 9. Congress is not empowered to create a government health insurance company.
