Gibbs Amused by Jon Voight at Tea Party
Asked about the several thousand protestors who gathered on Capitol Hill today to protest Democratic health care reform legislation, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs joked about one of the actors who was a featured speaker at the rally, saying, “I'm sure there's a Jon Voight joke in here somewhere, given he was one of the featured speakers, but…my father always told me my mouth would get me in trouble, and I have a feeling if I acted on the line that I'd like to give you, I'm almost positive that it would.”
Voight spoke at the rally, decrying the White House’s "radical Chicago tactics,” as did John Ratzenberger, better known as Cliff Clavin from the TV show Cheers.
Many members of Congress, including Rep. Michelle Bachmann, R-Minn., were featured as well, as was conservative talk radio host Mark Levin.
Pressed further for a response to the rally, Gibbs said that “anybody that watches (the rally) is struck by the fact that there's a rally going on without a solution on their side.”

I want to thank Jon Voight and Mark Levin for coming and speaking on Thursday at the Health Care Rally and standing with the American people. The both of them, along with many Senators walked the crowd of approximately 40,000 and shock their hands! I might add, without bodyguards! Us "Teabag People" are not violent! I was blessed enough to shake all their hands and I thanked them for trying to protect our grandchildren! Most of all I'd like to thank Michele Bachman for everything she is doing to save America! She alone put out the call to all Americans to come to the WH and 40,000 showed up within a 4 days notice from all over the country! She said we would be allowed in the Capital to speak to our representatives and she honored her word! DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE!

If they need a specialist and one is not in-house, a specialist is flown in at no extra cost to the representative. In both houses. And this is a life time benefit, along with their salaries. Their explanation as stated: It’s a benefit for the Mission? What mission?

I ask this because I'm exhausted hearing that they are the party of NO. Were they to put through a truly comprehensive bill that keeps the government out, it would be a relief.
Sure the Democrats would hem and haw and refuse to go along but this would put paid to the idea that they are friends of the middle class. However, if the Republicans do not act on what will be a golden opportunity to redeem themselves, maybe a third party WILL be viable.
