I am sorry for you but if you get what you want I won't feel sorry for you then. The disaster you propose will be inflicted on everyone equally. Greg, I don't go alone with that mantra "the government screws up everything it touches". If people say something over and over again when it's not true, you can get plenty of people to believe it. And I think that is what's happened here. Besides, is it only our government that's a big screw up or is it all the governments in the world.? How come other countries' government run healthcare is treasured by most of the people who claim they'll never give it up?

If there are some democrats who want to dictate prices to the drug companies and medical suppliers, remember nothing is written in stone yet. There is no final bill yet. We know that Medicare Part D negotiates prices with drug companies but Medicaid does not negotiate and reimburses retail pharmacies at set prices. In the end I don't believe anyone in congress wants to debilitate R&D and will do what is need to keep it strong.

Greg, we now either pay high premiums for health insurance to a private insurer, or our employers are paying high premiums to private insurers in exchange for you getting a lesser salary, or we could take employers out of the picture getting more in salary in return and paying a little more in taxes for public insurance at smaller premiums. Sounds good to me.

Look, I had good insurance the last six years for me and two kids. I paid 100 every two weeks until last year when it went to 120 per two weeks. I think that's very reasonable. If people are paying more, or can't get it, I believe there are ways to get it done without the government getting involved with handling the papers and all the rest. The government has shown a propensity to screw up everything it touches.

Another opposition's myth: public healthcare will hurt medical research. If we can have a public military that relies on corporate research and development to provide weapons for a profit, why wouldn't that go as well for medicine and medical R&D for a public health program.

The military is allowed to purchase equipment at a profit to the producer. The Pentagon has the power in Congress to get what they need. If insurance companies are not going to be charging their clients (that be you and me), then they can't pay the drug companies, the medical equipment manufacturers or the doctors or the hospitals. Yes, actually you are very wrong. The U.S. leads the world in medical research, medical technologies, patents, etc.... While government gives grants to Universities conducting medical research, there have been FAR MORE research projects and patented inventions that have come from America's private sector. Spend some time at the U.S. Patent website for starters.
