Maine Voters Repeal Gay Marriage Law
PORTLAND, Maine -- Maine voters have torpedoed a state law that would have allowed gay couples to marry.
With 84 percent of the precincts reporting, gay-marriage foes had 53 percent of the vote Tuesday.
The outcome amounts to a heartbreaking defeat for the gay rights movement -- particularly since it occurred in a northeastern New England state, the corner of the country most supportive of gay marriage.

What is the LEGAL reasoning for banning gay marriage? There is none. A bunch of people think they have every right to tell their fellow citizens they have no business marrying the person they love. Why? Religious reasoning. There is no more detrimental effect on any of you if two men get married than if a man and woman get married. None of you own marriage and it has been around longer than your religion.

How do two lesbians commit adultery? Or maybe the courts or the legislature can twist that one too! How do gays/lesbians define marriage and why should there even be a definition? If there is no definitive definition then there is no such thing as marriage.

How exactly can you define yourselves as the good guys? Good guys do good things. The vastly Christian driven banning and bashing of gay marriage has been led by liars, cheaters, fakes, and hypocrites. Not all Christians are good. Not all gay people are bad. There is a mix of both. Don't call yourself the good guys unless you're doing good and not ACTUALLY harming others.

God's law does trump anything that man might say.
There is no such thing as "gay marriage" as being between two of the same sex.
God established the laws of marriage, therefore He defined what marriage is.

This is fantastic news, only 53% voted against gay marriage, I wonder what it would have been 10 years ago and I wonder what it will be in 10 years. The Christian fascists are losing ground fast:

Dont' confuse degrees of tolerance with acceptance. The vast majority will never accept homosexuals as normal.

I would argue that the above stats represent a substantial shift in societal and cultural norms with regards to homosexuality.
Being that ‘moral or morally neutral’ behaviors are quite often if not always analogously linked to what is normal in a society.
You may still have a majority to stand behind, which at this points stands at around 49% but at the current rate of change in opinions you will not have that majority for very much longer.
