Obama: Hasan May Have ‘Cracked’ From ‘Stress’
JAKE TAPPER, ABC NEWS: Philosophically, what separates an act of violence from an act of terrorism?
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Well, look, we -- we have seen, in the past, rampages of this sort. And in a country of 300 million people, there are going to be acts of violence that are inexplicable. Even within the extraordinary military that we have -- and I think everybody understands how outstanding the young men and women in uniform are under the most severe stress -- there are going to be instances in which an individual cracks. I think the questions that we're asking now and we don't have yet complete answers to is, is this an individual who's acting in this way or is it some larger set of actors? You know, what are the motivations? Those are all questions that I think we have to ask ourselves. Until we have these answers buttoned down, I'd rather not comment on it.

What stress was Hasan under? He has not been in a war zone, he has been given the best training that can be obtained . He just wanted the training and then not fulfill his obligations to the military.

First of all, this guy joined the Army be choice, not draft. He stayed in the Army by choice, not force. He had never seen combat. My understanding is that he has never seen anyone returning from combat professionally. So where did his stress come from? What made his life any more stressful than mine or yours? Here is a newsflash for anybody who thinks joining the US military:
1. The US is involved in several conflicts at this time. This means you will probably be deployed during your service.
2. Many of our conflicts are currently in Muslim areas, and are against Muslin groups.
A very big heart-felt thanks to all who have served, or are serving, our country. I thank all of you with all of my heart. I pray for your safety.

My dad and husband are veterans; my son-in-law currently serves. In my experience, the military pretty much owns its members 24/7. Why could no one in the Army get a handle on this situation when this guy was so obviously anti-American?
