First Lady: Childhood Obesity Threat to National Security
(CNSNews.com) – At a ceremony at the White House on Tuesday, First Lady Michelle Obama announced the launch of the ‘Let’s Move’ campaign to end childhood obesity in the United States, an epidemic she said is costly and a threat to national security.
“A recent study put the health care cost of obesity-related diseases at $147 billion a year,” Mrs. Obama said. “This epidemic also impacts the nation’s security, as obesity is now one of the most common disqualifiers for military service.”

By the way Laura Bush is degreed and worked in education. She worked to improve education for children and rights for women and to influence her husband to support the bi-partisan no child left behind. If a liberal women is trying to help children be healthy I say support her don't attack her. If a conservative women (by the way Laura Bush is pro choice so moderately conservative) is trying to help children learn to read, write and cipher then why disrespect her?

This is a serious matter and even though I am a conservative I applaud her for taking it up. Let's not oversimplify the matter though. Anorexia and Bulimia are significant problems as well. Let’s help children become more healthy through healthy eating habits and exercise (which we could even model for them) and not by drawing attention to their body image. I hope Mrs. Obama did not publicly comment on her daughter’s BMI (Body Mass Index) and if she did that was inappropriate. Mr. Obama talked about his daughters grades and now her BMI is global chatter. A pre-teen’s BMI should not be broadcast. Let’s be a little more sensible about this.
