Vatican vs. 'New Moon'
Ahead of the weekend's blockbuster opening for the teen vampire fantasy Twilight: New Moon, a Vatican official condemned the movie as a "deviant moral vacuum." The comments from Monsignor Franco Perazzelo, of the pontifical council of culture, came just weeks after the Vatican warned parents that Halloween was had an "undercurrent of occultism" and was "absolutely anti-Christian."

When will they ever learn? Every time the Vatican condemns/critiscises a film like this it only serves to boost the footfall. They didnt like Harry Potter either.
Most kids are sensible enough to know that vampires and wolfmen arent real. You would have thought though that the Vatican might have approved of the abstinence messages throughout the saga, no sex before marriage etc.

First of all, there is no sex in this movie--only a few bare-chested scenes....big deal...and if this monsignor had read the books he might find that the characters' morals are much better than a large part of the American teenage population...sheesh, it'd be nice if people would educate themselves about a topic before opining.

Its just a silly fantasy movie, I think the Vatician is making a big deal about nothing. There is No such thing as vampires, and there sure as hell are no werewolves, so chill out.

This is just another silly teen movie. I don't understand these hateful comments about taking Communion. It's a very solemn act taken in remembrance of Jesus and the last supper. I'm not a Biblical scholar but that's the way I see it.

No - you are wrong. The church is sticking to the real issues. I think we all need to remember that we all have the God given ability to make our own choices in every aspect of our lives. I do not condone anything evil at all. As a Christian, I would not take my child to see this movie as that would be my choice. Let's pray that parent's who do are also teaching their children that this is all fantasy and is purely for escaping the horridness of our daily lives. I stand strongly as a Christian. I watched the Dracula movies as a child and have turned out perfectly normal. I watched The Exorcist and it did not damage to my character. My choices have not always been good ones, but I have learned and grown as a Christian and this has certainly caused my trust in God Almight to become the most important part of my everyday life. God brought me into the world, but I do all I can as He leads me to NOT BE OF THE WORLD. I only stand strong because of HIM.

It's a movie. It's for entertainment purposes. There are things based in reality that they should be concentrating on. See...this is why the church irks me. Intelligence is the path away from debauchery. If your flock is so easily influenced then you have a bigger problem than shirtless teen boys and actors pretending to be vampires: You take them for idiots. And as far as Halloween goes....it's the only holiday I know of where all the neighbors actually go to each others houses. It's the happiest day on the street.

Vatican should worry about other things and not New Moon which looks like a pretty good movie as Hollywood always makes pretty good movies and TV shows. I'm reading New Moon right now only have about 200 pages left I have seen the first Twilight movie it was pretty good. the funny thing about the author meyer is that she is a straight laced member of latter Day Saints... it's fiction, does not exist and is actually quite timid compared to author books in the ame genre... i don't know they even care about this series or movie.. it's fiction. she is not promoting anything. let it go... and once again be thankful we have the freedom to write and think whatever we want in this country
