Video: Florida Player Caught Eye-Gouging

Eye-gouging is considered such a foul, filthy act that it’s banned by even our most blatantly combative exercises, including mixed martial arts and pro wrestling.

Sheriff Urban Meyer of the Gainesville PD isn’t as concerned, apparently.

Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes was caught on film purposefully jamming his fingers through the facemask of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey on Saturday in an effort to rip at Ealey’s eyes. Read more here.

Urban Meyers & the SEC need to deal with this swiftly. they both have basically so "who cares,it's only football". granted there are times when things happen accidentally or there is an incidental facemask & that should be dealt with accordingly.then there are times like this. it was obvious what he was doing.it's hard to get your hand in there & you could tell his whole hand was in the facemask.what he did was premeditated. he should be removed for the remainder of the season & bowl game. the SEC should take after the Big Ten. they will review all unsportsmanlike calls & any other questionable matters. if they dont feel the refs &/or coach dealt with it properly they will hand down their own punishment.they ordered a 1 game suspension for OSU player Kurt Coleman for a helmet-to-helmet.you could tell by replay it was accidental but they felt since it happened at the end of the game he wasnt punished enough & they thought it was premeditated.tell me how they knew that? they couldnt.this particular player has played for 4 yrs & has had a minimum calls against him.now what the Florida player did was obvious premeditated. he needs to be removed!

The video was removed before I got a chance to see it, but from the way most of you saw it, it must have been nasty. And just to think, this is supposed to be a riole model for younger kids. The coach doesn't get off either--he showed weakness as a leader in the miniscule punishment. Tje rest of the players now know they can get away with the same sort of behavior.

Way to go Meyers. This guy deserves to be removed from the team. Sit out a half against Vanderbilt. Big move on your part. If it had been before the SEC championship he would have had to sit out what? Maybe the team meal? I live and breath SEC football and this is wrong. Show some class Meyers. What if he had done permanent damage to the young mans eyes?

This was such a dangerous thing to do and Florida is going to ignore it. I guess we shouldn't wonder why our youth behave the way they do. Look at the role models we give them.

what makes you think florida is going to ignore this....just cause he only got suspended for a half of a game doesnt mean he is not going to be punished further internally. spikes is prolly running until he pukes at 5am before practice the first few days of each week which is much more of a punishment then suspending him for 2 or 3 games. Give urban meyer some credit here he has an idea and has been around long enough

Some of you are blowing this out of proportion. There is no reason to be calling him a "thug" for something like this. Second I take it half of you don't know the game of football. Stuff like this happens all the time and has ALWAYS happened. Eye gouging, poking, biting, pinching, trying to break fingers occurs in these pile ups more than the average person knows. I think a proper punishment should be at least one or two games suspension simply because he was clearly caught red handed and to the degree he was doing it, nothing else. But geeze some of these comments really make a lot of you appear ignorant. And some of you say this is why you don't like football? Okay, sure, go watch Soccer like the wimpy Europeans. Just my opinion.

I live in FL. and this is a disgrace! What if he had blinded the other player for life? And this is not PRO ball it is College football. Brandon most certainly IS a thug for this type behaviour. I am ashamed of the Gators for not taking a more aggressive stance against this. If it could legally be done, I would like to see the win being ceded to GA.
Life and Education is much more important than a football game.

He should be punished because this should not be allowed and no one should get away with this whith a slap on the wrist. Take him out of the game for the rest of the year and if he did any damage he should pay for the health bills and maybe more . He should not get away with this. If anything like this happens again make it worde the next time.

There is little to no real value nor honor training on the palying fields anymore. It's all about winning, the coach and what "coach" can get for the team and not get caught, vis., girls, cars, money, etc. IF(and i say this very cautiously) IF, i was to encourage any governmental takeover of anything, it would be the entirety of the sports field and regulate the hell out of it and put buttholes like the face-gouger out of anything resembling pro-or amature sports for life for that one stupid, senseless but potentially life-altering act.
