Vacation from Terror: When Will Obama Speak Out on Flight 253?
Many are asking why President Obama has not stepped in front of cameras he has become so accustomed to and personally address the nation regarding Friday's foiled attack on Northwest Flight 253 en route from Amsterdam to Detroit. Surely a president would want the nation to know what his direct thoughts are when a terrorist suspect like London-based Nigerian national Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab tries to ignite a bomb on an airplane bound for the United States.
However, Mr. Obama has left all statements on the matter to those like Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, and Deputy White House Press Secretary Bill Burton. In the meantime, Mr. Obama continues his vacation in Hawaii. Immediately following the attempted terrorist attack, Mr. Burton did release a statement to the press.:

In December 2001 Bush didn't say a word about the shoe bomber for six days and didn't really talk about it for almost two weeks. That said, what difference does it make? Do you want a President standing up there and pounding his chest about what should be done, or can't we assume he's doing his job and finding out what happened first? Remember the never ending criticism President Bush took for that "seven minutes" he took to finish up reading to the kids when the news first came in that we were perhaps under attack? Seven minutes...In this case, while not a direct parallel, it is similar, we have a President on vacation who is taking days and days to respond to what was obviously a terror attack...and he hasn't responded yet......Draw your own conclusions.
