Tucked away in rural Connecticut the historic community of Litchfield was considered a safe haven for America’s troops during the Revolutionary war. Today, it’s a battleground where citizens and a town board fight over how best to honor soldiers serving overseas and yellow ribbons on the town’s green mark the dividing line.
The Board of Warden and Burgesses, charged with care of the green, decided the ribbons placed by citizens look shabby with little upkeep and could possibly damage the trees. Members fear a proliferation of multicolored ribbons if the yellow ones are allowed to stay.
“We just want to preserve our green and not have every Tom, Dick and Harry wanting to put something on the green or do something,” explained Senior Burgess Peter Gay. “I mean, we had a gentleman come to us, he wanted to put up three thousand black ribbons, so there’s the problem. Everybody’s gonna wanna put ribbons up.”

Damage to the trees? Another load of nonsense used to explain the real motives at work here. The lefty loons living in Litchfield are as busy as Obama to marginalize the War and turn it into a police action. I am ashamed that people like this live in Connecticut. People of Lutchfield, flush the public toilet and throw these bums down the drain.

May that town be the first to be attacked. Let them reap what they sew.

It is thier town. Let the local people choose. The beauty of America is if you don't like that you can move to another town that loves yellow ribbons & take your money with you. The Constitution is brilliant.

I, find it annoying and ridiculous, that, an entire town cowtows to one or two people!! If, the majority of the citizens of this community approve of having ribbons displayed and 1 or 2 object, the majority should rule and the objectors should live with it or be "POLITELY" asked to "MOVE ON"!!!

I actually agree with the board on this. If they allow the yellow ribbons, then they have to allow the other ribbons that have very distinct political meanings. To keep from letting their town green become a bilboard for political ribbons, they decided to ban them. There are other ways to support the troops than tying a ribbon to a tree.

Very simple. Every supporter of the ban who serves is shown the door next election. Problem solved!!!

That whole free speech thing can be such a pain to government officials...they need to get over it!

Maybe the service members should leave that town. Don't pay another dime in taxes or consumer goods. Just leave them dry. We the people will support out military in any way we can!
