Play Depicting 'Gay Jesus' Triggers Protests
SANTA ANA - A play depicting Jesus as a gay man played to an appreciative audience in a packed church sanctuary tonight while a handful of protesters outside called it blasphemous.
It was the second showing of "Corpus Christi" in Orange County in about two years. The show sparked protests and bomb threats at its 1998 opening at the Manhattan Theatre Club in New York.
The play depicts Jesus as a gay man living in 1950s Corpus Christi, Texas, playwright Terrence McNally's hometown. The cast of 13 portray Jesus and the 12 Apostles.
The Church of the Foothills in Santa Ana received hate calls and letters in the past few days since media publicity of the performance.

Capital punishment is in the bible (Leviticus 24:17-22) God was for it.. So is war (Exodus 21:12, 15; 22:19; Leviticus 20:11; Romans 3:10-18) and again God said that some times it is needed.

You assume if one disagrees with your point of view that we "hate" gays, sorry that is reserved for you liberals. I do feel that opinion is pathetic and self centered, and like many liberals who seek a church that enables them to believe what they want is alright, the mainstream still does not agree. Many christian churches that choose not to change their teaches to accomodate sodomy will continue to survive, god has plans for the rest of you.

To the playwrites and directors of this sickening play, I have an artistic suggestion - please put on a play that suggests that Mohammad is Gay, and see how many Muslims want to take your heads off!!!! It is outrageous that anyone and everyone feels the need to stretch the image of Christ in any way they want and we, who believe and follow Christ's teaching should just sit back.

The veneration of a representation of Christ, be it, western, orthodox or even black (as some depictions show Christ and his mother) doesn't lessen the faith of the believer..it's still the veneration of Christ, his covenant, his deeds and his apostles.
