School Yearbook Bans Combat Hat, Allows Hijab
At Merrimack Valley High, the yearbook policy prohibits photos like the one Jordan Westgate submitted. He's wearing his army combat hat, and he's standing in front of the American flag. What's the problem? asks Jordan, a senior who completed the Army's basic training last summer.
He's showing no disrespect. No disrespect at all. No hats and no props? Well, okay, for the most part. But shouldn't exceptions be made, especially these days, when we're fighting two wars simultaneously?
In fact Westgate, who will become a full-time soldier after graduation, believes he's showing more respect than anyone else in his class.

Parents need to ask their children about the things they are learning in their classes. If you have concerns about religious or political information being taught or brought up, you need to question the administration. There is more liberalism going on in our elementary and high schools than parents are aware of.

It's not mandatory for Muslim women to wear the Hijab.. I've searched the internet about this.. from what I've found it's voluntary, by choice. Now, since the Christian faith can't even be mentioned in school, and our children can't pray, Nativity scenes can be displayed, no mention of Christmas etc.. then by God this girl shouldn't have her picture in the year book if a young man who has sworn to serve his country can't have his patriotic picture in the year book. I'm sick of being PC, I'm sick of having the Islamic religion shoved down my throat... little by little our culture is being marginalized, taken away from us. I have some choice words, but since this post would be purged by the mods at Fox I can't say them... I can only say God help our country.

That's pretty cut and dry. If it was a Jewish yamaka (sp?) would it be such a big deal? or if some one couldn't wear a regular jewelry but could wear a cross pendent would it be the same? If some one is going to argue religious freedom on one topic that has to do with Christ and shun it on another that has to do with a different religion it's very hypocritical.

Unreal is also UNTHINKING. The question here is why a student could not use a photo of himself with military apparel and a US flag in the photo. The answer is very simple...it's because Obama and all of his zealots hate the USA and it's military. They also hate Christianity and freedom. In their sick thought process the only way to show fairness is to allow anything but Christianity and US patriotism. The freedom to show traditional American values has eroded to a point that angers many, many Americans. I only wish these people who love to hate American values would just up and leave the country they seem to despise so much.

I think the kid is in like some junior army, like the Bush youth brigade. At the YMCA, I’ve seen these kids bring in some kind of fitness certificate signed by Bush. Then they pin them up on all over the place.

I have no idea your politics, and do not pretend to do so. Your jump tp the political correctness that this entire article is about discrimination towards a faith, (this time of course being muslim) leads to the assumption that you are a very liberal person. The article in no way insinuates something wrong with the hijab. What it does detail, is the political correctness police deciding that something is only level if it benefits certain groups of which the plitical correctness police deem need a "level playing field". In my view this school should immediately have all "FEDERAL" funding cut off. If they cannot support and defend the defenders of this nation, then they can do it with their own private funding.
