A day before New York Rep. Peter King called Michael Jackson a “pervert” unworthy of nonstop media coverage, the aunt of a U.S. soldier killed in Afghanistan on the same day Jackson died asked why her nephew's death went virtually unnoticed while the King of Pop got memorial shrines across the country. "Mr. Jackson received days of wall-to-wall coverage in the media," Martha Gillis wrote to the Washington Post. "Where was the coverage of my nephew or the other soldiers who died that week?"
bradc
I'm not as angry at the media as I am at Congress. Michael Jackson got a lot of media coverage because of his fame. That is it, not because he was some great person just because of his international following. News will go where the ratings are. Congress however took a moment of silence for him but when have these, who some sent the troops to war, stopped congressional proceedings for a moment of silence for recently fallen troops. You don't have to wait for memorial day to honor fallen troops. Shame on Congress.
Liberals Are Parasites
It is sad that we glorify a pervert and not our heros that gave all.

Of course she has a point! It's young men like her son that have made it possible for people like Michael Jackson to have the freedom the become filthy rich addicted freaks. ONLY IN AMERICA! Now that he's buried...let's focus on the Americans who REALLY make the difference by laying theirs lives on the line every day for our liberty and basic rights. I'm sure Michael Jackson would agree.........
BO
I believe they do have rich people in the entertainment industry in many other countries.

This is a Capitalist country.CNN,FOXNEWS,MSNBC All are in the business of making money. All of you Fox viewers.Mr. Murdock may love your Conservatives views but you can bet he love high rating and money more.

Sad, but true.

It is a sad testament to the hedonistic nature of today's society that a flawed
and troubled pop icon should garner more sympathy than the service men
and women who die preserving his egocentric lifestyle . It is worth noting that
most of this hype is driven by anti-war activists, and a virulent press corps.
Theodis Brown
We can honor both. Why does it have to Micheal or the son that died fighting for this country.
Excalibur
sj-if Joe Biden died or any famous person there would be more coverage. MJ was an international super star. Like him or not he would garner alot of coverage. One has nothing to do with the other. The hype is driven by his fans. Our brave soldiers deserve more recognition for sure, but their deaths are covered more locally.
paleocon57
The reason the coverage was so one-sided is that the people who own the cameras and the airwaves really believe that Jackson is a hero.
They believe that entertainment is far superior to hard work and that the Medal of Honor is inferior in importance to an Oscar or an Emmy.
They think a song like John Lennon's Imagine is a goal that could actually be reached and not the musings of a drug addled old hippie.
Their view of honor is limited to award ceremonies where they pat one another on the back and tell themselves how important their "work" is.
I would gladly give up my tickets to any entertainment event just for the opportunity to sit at the bedside of a wounded soldier, sailor, airman or marine just so I could tell them how much their service means to the people who "get it". The people who know what real honor is.
OBXfisher
Why do you need to give up a ticket??? Just head down to the local VA hospital and do what you say you will. Or are you just spouting off BS because it fits, you know, kind of like your "Hero" Hannnity did when he saids he would be wateroarded for the troops...Hypocrite!
BO
How many of you hypocrites plan on attending Lt. Bradshaw's memorial or would watch it if it was televised. The truth is that 1.6 million people applied to go to MJ's service demonstrating to the media that there is interest. The reason that people aren't as interested in Lt. Bradshaw is because he is a hired combatant and his job has inherent risk. All jobs have a level of risk to them, some much higher than others, but no one in our current military was drafted so for whatever their reason they volunteered and they accepted those risk. People aren't interested every time a police officer catches a criminal because he is doing his job, but if a private citizen catches one it is news.
CB
I'd watch Lt. Bradshaw"s memorial and I didn"t watch Jackson"s.

MJ= a flawed human being with musical talent. THAT IS ALL PEOPLE! People made him what he was. Whether it be his father who was abusive or record exec's who propeled him to the top or the women in his life or the fans. This guy had issues but he was a very talented singer and dancer. Let's not make him out to be like a real hero like a doctor who saves lives or a fireman who does as well or a soldier that gives his life for the freedom to become an icon by entertaining people like MJ did.

This shows how messed up this country has become. We get and overdose of a celebrity's death and hear nothing of the fallen heroes. The will be no outrage in the media because they pander to the kool-aid drinkers. (sorry Fox news, you are guilty this time) MY computer must be liberal for it will not let me post anything. The only thing worse than seeing B.O.'s face all over the news daily , is to have to see a freak's face like M.J. . But they both garnered the same supporters . Think about it !

So did the man who shot up the holocaust museum and mccain. Think about it!

Only in America do we idolize a serial child molester and forget those men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. C'mon fellow Americans, let's take this country back!
OBXfisher
Serial child molester, really?? I missed that trial, the one i saw he was aquited. That is still the way it works in this country isn't it? You know, what with the constitution you hold so dear and all. Or does that only apply to people you agree with??? I in now way support MJ, but do support our legal system. So, while it certainly appears he had some culpability OUR legal system found him innocent. You don't get to choose when you stand behind our system and when you don't. Well, not unless your a right wing loony I guess.
Eranimus
Our legal system is a joke. Once it distributed true justice, but know It is ruled by corrupt bureaucrats. Your idea of justice is false.

I can't say are wan't say how the coverage should have played out
for my own reasons. I do want to say a few words about 1st Lt.Brian
Bradshaw who died in Afganistan and to the other 13 soliders that
died that week also.People say I can support the Solider but I can't
support the cause, how shameful, our American soldier has but one cause
and that cause is our freedom and to keep America safe from harm.
He is willing to put his life on the line everyday he serves for our
American way of life and all we can do is say is a few words on his
behalf, there is no reward any greater then one that is willing to lay down his life for another.
Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you....Jesus
Christ and the American Solider...One died for your soul, the other
for your freedom. ...God bless our military.. Our men and our women...
be
Very well put. People take freedom for granted and forget someone paid a price for it.

Dear FOX NEWS:
Get it back on track. As a military spouse with a husband serving a year in Iraq, it disgusts me that you have jumped on the "Michael Jackson" bandwagon with the other news channels and devoted so much time to his sudden demise. What about the kidnapped soldier in Afghanistan? What about the soldiers that died there this week? The time devoted to their sacrifice pales in comparison to the coverage of MJ. He was an ENTERTAINER. That's it. Let E! cover it, not an actual news channel. Your network is sacrificing it's reputation for ratings and if you want to start being known as the "mainstream media" keep covering stories like this. If not the soldiers, you would at least think the economy would take precedence over MJ's death. People are losing their homes and jobs, and you're busy devoting hours to someone who was known for singing and dancing. Way to go. Great job.
From a very disappointed military spouse
Eranimus
I agree. I woke up the day after he died and "Fox and Friends" talked about him dying for, I kid you not, 2 hrs all morning. He died, big whoop, get over it and move to the more important stories that deal with our country and her soldiers.
killer
It's called capitalism; look it up. You guys are supposed to be in favor of it.

you should not have left the boat
DianaV
This lady needs to direct her anger at President Bush or someone else that made this war happen, not to Michael Jackson. He was a King in many ways, these soldiers that are losing their lives out there for this country is very sad, but this lady needs to understand that we have many soldiers that are dead and that will unofortunately keep on dying....but we will only have one MICHAEL JACKSON !!!!!
Texas GrandMom
Thank the Lord there was only one mj. And, you may have had him, but don't include the rest of us. He wasn't mine.

no I am sure he perveted his kids enough so they may grow up to dye their skin black and sing gospel

Your Michael Jackson would not even have a life if it was for our military. With out our military, you would not have any freedom and this entertainer would not have had the opportunity he got. If you think those 14 soldiers and marines died for an entertainer, they didn't. They died for you!
utah1230
When you said we have "many soldiers that are dead" Just to let you know .....to their families there was ONLY one of them!!!!!!!! Every soldier out there that dies for his country should get just as much publicity....they are the ones that are fighting for OUR freedoms....and yes yours too.....so in your little world you idolize the molester....in my world I will idolize someone that is willing to put their life on the line to protect my family....not violate them!!!
Proud Military Spouse of my soldier that has served this country for 29 years!!!!
God Bless all our soldiers serving and may we never forget their sacrifices that they make on a daily basis.
Badmamajama
What a shame that you put a pedophile on a pedastal, and run the bus over the men and women that fight so you can be free to worship such people. This country is in deep trouble.

It never ceases to amaze me at just how ignorant a person can be and still be taught to type!
Why would it be of any importance that this women realize the irrelevancy of this pop singer.
With his insignificant contribution to the world?
American Wahine
No. She is right on and you need a reality check and a conscience.
Badmamajama
and shame on you for doing the same. I have zero respect for someone who admits to sleeping with children that are not his own, musical genius or not.
