There is not one thing wrong or objectionable about learning about new cultures. Other than the culture of the Native Americans, our country's culture is a conglomeration of many cultures from the world over, but that potpourri of cultures has been blended into the American culture.
No one is being asked to abandon their culture or the speaking of their language. However this is America and the idea that we have room for one flag, one language and one loyalty is spot-on dead right.
Speaking of ugly and resentment, as I watched the illegal immigrants marching on May Day brandishing their Mexican flag and protesting in Spanish for blanket amnesty, I personally found that atrociously ugly and resented them and their disrespectful attitude and behavior in and toward our country immensely.

English is our Language,Christianity is our fate. Why you won't fight for it in your Country baffles me. If you want your ways here so bad why won't you fight for it there so bad?Have you ever ask yourself why you came here?Your Country calling for you to help but instead of helping your forefather, you want to bring your unpatriotism here and want us to change to you. how sad for ones intellect. The soft heart of the American is harding rapidly, and then we all lose. There's a reason why your in the greatest land in the world. In saying this lets you and I not destroy IT..your welcome with open arms but you can't kept slapping Americans in the face.So i ask you to think long and hard.I not against you but i'm for America

BECAUSE WE ARE IN AMERICA, not Spain. Its fine to learn a new language, but English is our language! Not spanish, Russsian, German, etc. I do not see any of these other countries catering to us, we have to learn their language when we CHOOSE to live in Spain! Are you really that stupid.

Yes I have been abroad cep and stayed, there is some english signs, they speak a little english, and such, but their language is their own. They speak their native language and we have to adapt to them, not the other way around. English is secondary or third. Their official language is what what they speak, that you can not deny. English is not official language of Japan, it is Japanese. Yes they put signs and such, but they do not claim english a primary language there, its Japanese!

Have you been do those countries? I lived in Europe and Japan, and they "cater," as you call it, a great deal to English. Go into any shop in Germany or France or Spain or Thailand or Mexico or..well, they will try to speak English with you. There is vastly more English around in those countries then comparable foreign language in The USA. And nobody is arguing that English is our language--but does that mean that we can have only English? Open your eyes and ears and don't be so afraid of other languages, other cultures. And don't be so angry..you are burning up, screeching insults and wagging your fingers for no good reason.

A shamefully stupid and heartless video that understands neither the difficulty of learning a foreign language nor the effort that many foreigners make to learn it. I often visit adult ESL classes where Chinese, Russian and Vietnamese, many past 50, go nightly, after then hours of work, and sit for more hours in overcrowded classrooms, just to pick up a few words. How desperately they want to learn. If The USA accepts foreigners, who (I would argue) have helped keep American prosperous, why not give them some help? Is pushing a 1 or seeing a extra line in another language below a line in English so unbearable? Show some kindness, christian or other, for your fellow man.

Cep, you say you have lived in Europe and Japan! Could you do all of us a favor and go live in one of those countries. This is about our country, religion, values and not inviting everyone to a welfare state. Stop being so narrow minded, I guess you have no problem with removing God from everything, as well!

The video clearly depicted the efforts of those who immigrated to this country in prior centuries to learn the English language by attending English classes. I doubt it was any easier for those immigrants to sit in class after working all day to learn the language of their new country than it is for today's immigrants. However, if those who came before could do it in order to more easily assimilate into their new lives in America, why is expecting the same of those who come today to this country perceived as asking to much of them?

Again, why do you assume that they don't want to or don't hard to learn? Why the stereotyping? Again, if I were you, I would to talk with these modern immigrants, go to the neighborhood, see what is really happening. In prior centuries, there was also a lot of anti-immigrant reaction and hatred too--newcomers were segrated and threatened and scored, but always the next generation, born in an English speaking world, learn English as their first language. .
Remember too that a lot of newer immigrants (Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese) come from non-European cultures which has radically different languages (grammar, written forms) making it even harder to assimilate. With a little patience, they and their families become productive citizens and give back what they receive. Don't see monster were there are none.

I agree! Communication is the avenue whereby we all are able to meet and discuss honestly those issues that might divide us otherwise. If we can all speak the language of the land, and in America that is English, then there would be less difficulty in reaching a common ground to work out problems...It would not solve all of them but it sure would cut down on some problems...Love America, welcome to all that are seeking to make a better life, but PLEASE come with the understanding that it would help all of us if we all spoke English.

Typical for right wingers to be angry they have to "Press 1 for english". Why is this so hard for you to do ?. So what you are saying is that we should not work with these people until they are fluent in english?. Someone comes to the USA and takes a couple years to pickup the nuances of english and until they do we should not make it any easier to get along with the rest of us ?? I work with people who are learning english and it takes a couple years to really understand everything. If they need help on the phone we should just give them the middle finger until they can speak fluently. Marvelous, no wonder the republican party is said to be so out of touch.

It is not the intent to make sure that everyone has to speak english all the time. There is also nothing wtong with one's culture or one learning a culture. But this is a country that speaks english. So Let me ask you. Why do we only have Spanish, why isn't there a Press 2 for Russian, Press 3 for Polish, Press 4 for Chinese? Obviously you see nothing wrong with that so why not question that?
English is the predominate Language spoken here. Nothing else. It cost millions (if not billions) of dollars to print government and private (companies that do work for the US Government) forms and publications in different languages. We want to communicate not learn a new culture. So you feel that someone comes here (On their own) and we have to bend over and for them? Where is the responsibility for them? You make us responsible for someone else. No wonder we are billions of dollars in the red on government budgets.

I can try to answer that. 1. There are thousands of language in the world, so obviously, you can only get at a few of the most common second languages in a locale. However, in the future, with better digitalization, such translations in many language might be possible and also relatively cheap. 2. Language is culture - to learn is to speak a foreign langauge is to learn something about how another culture looks at and organizes the world. 3. "Bend over backwards." How are you bending over backwards? Because you have to press 1! Tempest in a teapot...but hey, if you enjoy being bitter and resentful...

Strange word-("appeasers?) Is this a war? Are they the enemy? In my experience, most of them want to learn English. It is pointless to say 'should'...for many it is a must. (Again, if you have lived in a foreign country, it is painful not to speak...the motive and urgency to learn the native language is always felt.) As for publishing info in another language, I haven't seen any hard stats that show 'excessive amounts of money' spent on translations. Businesses do it (press 1) because they want to get non-native speaker's business too and to help their real their real and potential customers. Good, I say. In any case, for the amount of good it provides, the money spent is worthwhile.
