If you are think you are a patriot, then don't use undemocratic, unpatriotic language. What makes American great is this open dialogue (Thank you for this, Foxnation), where people are not exiled for disagreeing.
Also, clearly you haven't read what I wrote. Not once have I denied that English isn't the main language and that other countries haven't got 'main' language or that immigrants shouldn't learn it. I love the video. English has always been the language of America because it has been the dominant language. The reality is that we have no official language of the US. Karen, I am glad you appreciate some of the American writers that I like. As for your second point, I respectfully disagree. I have tried as best I can to promote tolerance and understanding of the trials of learning a second language, and I have tried to avoid name calling. Many here only want to listen to one point of view, one set of values and to distort or turn out anyone who disagrees. Shouldn't you be asking them to look in the mirror instead of me? Or do you think anyone who disagrees with the majority opinion on this site is automatically filled with hatred? It is simply not true.
If you are fair, read here what I wrote and read what others write and measure objectively where the anger and hatred lie. It is easy to think that someone who disagrees with you is the enemy but actually he may be you best friend for he wants you to think with him, to share with him the burden and joys of a open-hearted and unprejudiced disagreement.

I don't like the fact that our American society has catered to the fact that it's ok to not be able to speak english. That we'll just adjust around them and convert everything to your language. Put it this way, my wife is a nurse who lost hours at her job, not because the economy is bad but because some of the patients she has are spanish and don't know a lick of english. Now the hospital she works at is cutting her hours and giving them to bilingual nurses. How fair is that. America's priorities are backwards. This "ugly little video" (your words) increases the resentment of whom? And why? If learning about new cultures is a good thing (your words), then why not imagine that immigrants to the US will enjoy learning our language and culture? Just from traveling briefly through Switzerland (where they speak 4 languages, depending on which part of the country you are in) I can tell you that they did not make special accommodations for me, even at a restaurant. I frequently had to depend on an acquaintance or the French-English dictionary to figure out what I needed to do. And I didn't expect that it should be any different. After a week, menus and road signs were fairly easy. If I were planning to stay for an extended period, I would expect to have learned a bit of the language just from the immersion. It would be OK for you to get off your soapbox on this topic.

Why would I want to learn African culture, they still slaughter each other long tribal lines on a regular basis. We could learn a lot from Sudan culture and how they handle Dufar.
