I agree with the students. At some point you have to take a stand for your own belief system. Obama stands for nothing, he bows literally and figuratively to whatever serves his interests. We have elected an ANTI-AMERICAN administration with an empty suit at the lead.

I am not a fan of the Presidents polices. But I have to say that he is are President and Commander and Chef, let’s give him the respect of that. The right was upset when the left did these very same things to Bush; forgetting his position because of his polices.

Just an opinion. I think it might be in the best interest of ND to take back the offer of the honorary degree for Obama. The speaking to the graduates as the President is one thing as it is a show of respect to the position. The degree is showing that ND believes the person currently holding that position is one who holds the same ideals as those who have actually earned (through hard work) that same degree. My prayers are with Both the ND and Obama administrations to do what is best for ND and the students.

It would be great as our president started to speak that those who disagree with him got up and walked out. Something our president did not have as he sat in chruch for 20 years to hear the rev wright's craps. Gee if that happened it would send a true message, maybe even wound is ego.

As a Catholic and an America. I believe in the seperation of Church and State. I didn't vote or agree with Obama. As an America, don't we have the right to disagree with ideas? I don't agree everything the Church tells me.

With opposition on Obama's speaking at the ND mounting, Obama should take the initiative to turn it down. One thing is for certain that if it were the case of muslims protesting over Obama, let's say, speaking to their mosque, Obama will be bending over backwards to appease these muslims and bow out. But because he only considers us as "...a nation of citizens" and "not a nation of Christians," Obama does not give a damn.

When, if ever, will the Church make a stand?
When, if ever, will the Church hold it's members accountable?
This is not about Obama. This is not about Notre Dame. This is about the INDIVIDUALS who chose to defy their Church and beliefs for their personal gain.
Obama is not simply apathetic to life of the unborn. He is a crusader. From the Mexico City Policy, to Kathleen Sebelius-defender of Tiller the baby killer, to his appointment of White House legal staff that argues to the Supreme Court that pregnancy is akin to slavery.
It's time for the Alum to make the hard choice of withdrawing donations until those reponsible are made to realize what is important.

As a born, baptized, raised and educated Roman Catholic I can only say that my religion is not a democracy; nor is it a buffet from which you can choose which rules you will and/or will not obey; either you are or are not a true and honest Roman Catholic who believes, follows and obeys the rules and laws of GOD and the Church; they are not up for debate; although I did not attend UND I have been a life long admirer and support and yes a fan; but that will probably cease if BARAMA is allowed to speak at graduation and receive an honorary degree; NOTRE DAME means OUR LADY'S SCHOOL or OUR MOTHER, the MOTHER of JESUS CHRIST OUR SAVIOUR; I wonder what SHE and JESUS think of abortion and stem cell research using embryos and fetuses; UND never should have extended the invitation and even if it means being embarrased they should withdraw it immediately; that or the POPE should step in and order them to withdraw the invitation; this is not a political issue or an election; as I said before, GOD and the CHURCH are not a democracy.

I am an alumni from ND east, King's College in PA, with a very close connection with the Holy Cross community. One thing we must remember is that Christ walked among all, whores, lepers, tax collectors, he spoke with them all and I wonder what he would do.
My feelings are pretty much the same as yours but I would request that President O Spend A Lot go visit Hugo or Fidel and forget to come back.

You are correct. Christ would connect with him as he was known for reaching out to "whores, lepers and tax collectors", but he wouldn't have given him a platform to talk to the children and certainly no honorary degree.

Notre Dame IS a CATHOLIC SCHOOL. I applaud the students who are standing by their moral values and principles that they have been taught as part of their religion. Too many people do not have principles and values anymore let alone stand firm and uphold them.

The pope should remove the Catholic support and mandates permanently from this school, and leave them on their own. It should no longer be considered a Catholic University. The Dean and supporters for Obama at this school should be ex-communicated from the Catholic Church for their non-Catholic support for the Abortion President. Allow the faithful Catholics other options to transfer to a faithful Catholic University. You are either Catholic and support your religions views 100%, or you are not a part of the church at all - period! The Pope needs to be more stern on people of the Catholic Church that are not following the beliefs 100% of the time in their everyday lives. There must be consequence to their actions to show others that the Pope is serious on Catholics taking their religion, its rules, and beliefs seriously.

Mac please, it is a catholic institution, with beliefs and morals and biblical guidlines. I am sure if Obama was hungry, hurt or in need in some way, the CATHOLIC school would respond differently. But to invite him to speak and give him a honorary award is ridiculous. Moral christians dont hate Obama but WILL NOT support him .ABORTION IS MURDER , PERIOD let Obama speak at a secular school that supports abortion, gay marriage , evolution and anything else thats ant- GOD.

Mac, this is how it works in The Roman Catholic Church: If His Holiness declares Notre Dame to a secular university, then they can call themselves anything they like, but they will have no priests, deacons, brothers or nuns on the staff as His Holiness can order them all to depart from the land of sin or be de-frocked. As another writer said, the Roman Catholic Church isn't a democracy or a cafeteria.

Such a controversy should cause the President to withdraw from speaking - this graduation is becoming more about the President than the students who have worked to earn their degrees. How can President Obama in good conscience stand at that microphone and speak when his attendance is so offensive to the student body and their parents.
The President also shows his ignorance of our faith for not understanding the meaning or significance of the Bishop refusing to attend .
Rescinding the offer to the President may bother some, but if Notre Dame wishes to be a Catholic University, then, as has been said before, our faith is not popular, our beliefs do not change with the times.
Life is the foundation on which human society is built. Condoning or helping women kill their unborn children is the base for the destructive changes and ,in particular ,the violence of our country; a true lack of respect of life.

I do not agree with ND decision, especially it being moral and Catholic. I am disgusted by the thought of homosexuality. It is unacceptable and I wonder if people could just picture what needs to be done to a person to be homosexual. Think about it. Do you want that done to you or your son or father? ND should reconsider their decision and get their respect back.

The Bloody City
(Abortion in America)
Children yawn and stretch, and are torn to pieces in an instant.
Cries for mercy fall on deaf ears.
They are loathed, they are loathed.
Angels stand with swords drawn as the Bloody City sleeps.
Awaken! City of power, City of light.
While you have slept, foulness has covered your streets,
The stench of the blood and entrails of murdered innocents.
Strange voices from the air, screaming for choice,
Perverted liberty.
Louder, louder! to drown out the cries for mercy.
But the songs of the children go up before the Father,
For a testimony,
While angels stand with swords drawn, as the Bloody City sleeps.

David, you need to grow up and learn to think for yourself instead of parroting left wing propaganda. You may be educated but open minded you aren't. Look how you spew venom at those with who you disagree. Just because you may be educated doesn't mean you are intellectually superior to anyone. "Higher Education" institutions are the most closed-mined organizations in this country. Public institutions will not tolerate any view that disagrees with their Leftist pablum, unfortunately they have hurt the very nation that feeds them by producing indoctrinated individuals like you.
Notre Dame wasn't mean't to be just another public institution, it was suppose to reflect Catholic views/values. Unfortunately, by inviting President Obama, Notre Dame became just another university like the rest of the public schools of "Higer Education." And, by inviting him it will be presented to the world that Norte Dame indorses him. I would think that president Obama would want to go to Harvard or Yale's graduation ceremony. After all they helped make him what he is. By the way, "change" isn't always good.

I don't like it one bit! The Catholic Church has a strong stance when it comes to abortion and I see absolutely no benefit to inviting a pro-abortionist to speak at commencement, essentially giving him a place of honor at your table! Any Catholic that does see sense in this, in my opinion, should leave the Church and look elsewhere for spiritual guidance! It is beyond my understanding and personal moral convictions how those wayward Catholics can sleep at night knowing they are contradicting the Catholic Church's long-standing abortion stance!

What about the honor of having the President of the United States speak at your commencement? The unique opportunity should be relished by the students of Notre Dame. Graduation Addresses are meant to be motivational and inspirational, President Obama is an excellent public speaker who will make the event special for all those in attendance. Abortion was not a topic that came up at my commencement, so I can imagine that President Obama will not bring the issue up at the Notre Dame Commencement.
