I did not vote for Obama, but he is our president. So, here's my thought...
When President Obama appears, don't applaud--just bow and begin praying without ceasing. It is not a show of disrespect, just sending a message that we know who rules throughout our country and the world
Let President Obama make his speech, however, replace his speech with a speech by ND students for him to read that Obama has heard the cries of Catholics and Christians throughout the country and that he now has 'Change That They Can Believe In'
Do not applaud at any time if President Obama persists in giving his own prepared speech--minus the teleprompter. If he cannot give a speech without a TOTUS (as Rush nicknamed it), then he cannot speak from his own heart. That is really sad and requires continuous prayer.
Send a message to President Obama that he may abandon a lot of what the country desires, but that there are miracles everyday. We are praying for President Obama to change.

I feel that the Chanccellor of Notre Dame should have thought this out before inviting the President. It used to be that Logic and Ethics was an impretant subject at ND. Pity it has gone by the wayside.

If most Catholics did not agree with Obama, he would not be president.
It's time to recognize the functionally divisive gap between what comes from Rome, and here at home from the bishops, and what most worshipping Catholics actually beleive and practice. Sometimes the leaders have to learn from the followers!

This is what happens when liberal theologians disregard God's concern for the sanctity of life and desire to please men rather than God. This is a president who supported ending the life of a surviving aborted baby, is in the process of enslaving ours and future generations to a insurmountable debt payment, and supports the "fairness doctrine" which would silence any opposition to same sex marriage. Couldn't an honorable speaker who champions traditional marriage, pro-life, and free speech be found?

Obama has engaged in an all out attack on the church.

The Obama budget makes 750 billion dollars of charitable contributions not tax deductible over the next ten years in order to raise 300 billion in revenue. The top one percent of households provide twenty-six percent of all charitable donations.

Obama wants to require any charitable organization that receives any federal funds (including charities that simply act as conduits for delivering federal assistance) to comply with federal rules on equal employment. That means that if a religious organization operates a food kitchen and accepts one piece of federally subsidized cheese, they will not be permitted to hire people based on their religious faith.

In the past, health workers could refuse to participate in providing abortion or euthanasia services, and the hospitals that employed them were required to make reasonable accommodation. That protection was in an executive order which Obama struck down. Now a surgical nurse can be forced to assist with abortions as a condition of employment at a hospital. Shouldn’t pro-choice mean that the nurse gets a choice too?

Our tax dollars are currently being spent to fund abortion services around the globe as part of changes Obama made to foreign aide.

Prior to Obama, stem cell research could be federally financed as long as it involved adult stem cells, umbilical stem cells, or embryonic stem cells from certain specified sources. Other embryonic stem cell research was legal, but not federally funded. Now our tax dollars are being spent to create human life in order to kill it for study.

Language in the version of the stimulus bill passed by the House would have required that government facilities receiving federal funds not be made available for use by religious organizations. That would mean that publicly financed facilities that generally are available for rent by outside organizations (like camp grounds, sports stadiums, schools, and some other public buildings) could not rent to religious groups. It did not pass this time, but will probably return when Obama implements his plan to draft bills through the reconciliation process, where no opportunity is provided for review or debate.

These are not nightmarish fantasies. These are concrete actions taken or proposed.

He is trying to make-over America and will gradually be a dictator.
Say "no way" now as in the future you may never get that chance.

I have great respect for Notre Dame and a number of my ancestors and friends attended that great Catholic University. A great uncle of mine back around the 1890's was Brother Leopold, who, in his later years at ND was the "mascot" for the football team, handing out goodies and enthusiastic support for the players. I think it's the right thing for Notre Dame to honor and respect our first black president. Orthodoxy, by itself, cannot be equated with morality or spirituality or anything else that's good. As long as some are being judgmental, why not discuss something more serious than differences of opinion on Church doctrine? How about what the Church would consider misbehavior? John McCain and Newt Gingrich walked out on their wives for other women -- Does that mean Notre Dame shouldn't invite these men to speak because of their behavior?

I agree with TJP. One of the biggest problems in this country is that when it comes time to elect a new president, we too often ONLY rely on mainstream media to give us the information we need to make an INTELLIGENT and INFORMED vote. Have we not figured out politics by now!? I believe that for a lot of people who vote they think that they are practicing their duty as americans and are proud that they voted but forget that there is more to it than that and it is called RESEARCH! If you vote based on only what you here in the mainstream media you are doing this country a great disservice! The current situation is a perfect example! Shame on anyone who did not research both candidates before voting, especially catholics! For anyone who WANTED to see the truth all they had to do is look. As much as I can not stand Notre dame's decision, I am almost glad, for the simple fact that all that was surpressed in the mainstream media is finally getting the focus that it so deserved during the campaigns! Catholics are finally coming out of the woodwork to defend the sanctity of human life and what our Church and Christianity has always stood for! I believe that this is the last straw.
So far 221,000 signatures for the cardinal newman society shows that truth and
1,700 signatures for the project sycamore petition made up of ND students and alum also shows that.
Remember: "Catholic" means universal and was first used by St Ignatius to refer to All of christiandom. We are not a sect! We are the One True Church and it is our duty to all of Christiandom to make sure people like Obama regardless of their political standing "should not be given a platform as to suggest support for their actions" (USCCB) Notre Dame would be smart to dissinvte Obama. Go beyond abortion to infanticide and letting infants that by a miracle have survived the abortion process to only be wrapped in a blanket and left to die in a utility closet! MURDER! Undeniably the most disgraceful!!! You do not need to be a christian to know that!
SHAME ON NOTRE DAME!

I believe Notre Dame is making a big mistake. They are letting go of the basic Catholic principles for the prestigue of having a sitting president speak at the commencement exercises. Perhaps if enough deep pocket alumni speak out, they can get Jenkins to withdraw the invitation - after all, they speak very loud when the football team is losing and they want a new coach.

What is really says is those that voted for OBAMA don't stand by their principals. My most beloved school has let me down, and my support of them is gone. It will be lasting, not just momentary, since Obama's actions so far, are very far from momentary.

I asked Father Jenkins via e-mail if he missed the meeting with Pope Benedict in which Catholic institutions were instructd to uphold Catholic VALUES. I guess he must have missed the US Bishops instructions that Catholic institutions were in no WAY, SHAPE or FORM to honor to those whose views are based in intrinsic evil.

May I suggest that the graduates turn their backs and listen to their IPODS when Obama speaks?
And, a question for Obama: when his children ask what all the fuss is about, does he tell them that some people have differing views from him; or does he tell them the full story, that he believes in killing children and others don't.
Does he tell them that abortion diminishes women? We don't need abortion - we aren't stupid, we know what causes pregnancy; we aren't ignorant - we know it can be prevented; we aren't lazy - we can go to get protection; we aren't weak - we can say no to sex. Teach our daughters that they have the power never to put themselves in a position where they would even consider taking a human life, not that they are some stupid weakling who needs a murderer to take care of their "mistakes."

Although a VERY open university to all faiths and beliefs, you don't recognize someone who belittles your club's rules in his beliefs. To have President Obama (who I wouldn't vote for if threatened by a toasty afterlife speak as our country's president, I fully support because once again ND attracts the best of the best. To recognize him "for his accomplishments", couldn't be a worse quote by Fr. Jenkins.
