Gibson: Bias at MSNBC, Fox News Is Harmful

An ABC TV network news anchor said he’s troubled by what he called the biased news coverage of Fox and MSNBC.

“I worry about the lack of objectivity and the future of the news business,” Charles Gibson told a Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce audience yesterday.

The host of ABC’s “World News” program said the two cable networks are playing to niche audiences - Fox to conservatives and MSNBC to liberals - to the detriment of what should be objective news gathering and reporting.

“I don’t like the fact that they’re delivering news based on the conviction of its viewers,” he said. “This desire to play to niche audiences is making it harder and harder for mainstream media like ABC, NBC or CBS - and there are viewers who watch news that plays to their own prejudices.”

Dear White House :
America is troubled by all of the babble, spin, falsehoods, and dis-communication emmanating from your press secretary Gibbs. You are right about CNBC. They lie too.We find comfort and reassurance from the straight talk, patriotic editorials, and objective analyses on FOX News.

Gibson should hoist himself on his own petard. Gibson has been sleeping at the wheel or switch, either of which you decide. Could it be his research staff is incompetent as well as his reporting. Methinks Gibson plays softball in a hardball world.

Why doesn't Charlie mention the bias at CNN and the other news organizations? Besides, let the people decide, this is still a free country so far. If you don't want to watch Fox then don't, if you don't like MSNBC, that's what the channel changer is for. If Charlie is just figuring this out now I question his reporting ability.

I cannot deny any of these things; they just aren't important to me and I don't care. I noticed you challenged my knowledge of these items but you didn't correct Beck's opinion of himself. Having to take in family because they lost their job, that's important. Loosing a neighbor in Iraq; that's important. Having MS and not being able to get supplemental insurance; that's important. This is my life. The things you mentioned are just trivial to me. I didn't even care that Scooter Libby lied, I didn't even care that Cheny had Enron writing the environmental policy. These issues are nuisances to me. If you want to wring your hands over them; you can and that is your business.

Lets get one thing straight. There is a clear distinction between "news" and "commentary". Glenn Beck, Bill O, Sean Hannity do NOT run news programs. Kieth Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, Bill Maher do NOT run news programs. These are entertainment shows laced with slanted commentary.
This is the crux of the issue: nobody reports the news anymore because that is way too boring. Just watch CSPAN and PBS. If people simply reported the news (void of anybody's opinions) then nobody, including all of you people on this blog, would care.
The fact is, people would rather be told what to think (by Fox and MSNBC) as opposed to listening to plain-jane news reporting and making up their own opinion. That takes time and energy. America is too fat and lazy to form their own opinion so they watch the garbage commentators who have too many opinions.
