Democratic Representative Threatens Catholic Church

I expect political hardball on any legislation as important as the health care bill.
I just didn’t expect it from the United States Council of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
Who elected them to Congress?
The role the bishops played in the pushing the Stupak amendment, which unfairly restricts access for low-income women to insurance coverage for abortions, was more than mere advocacy.
They seemed to dictate the finer points of the amendment, and managed to bully members of Congress to vote for added restrictions on a perfectly legal surgical procedure.

We Can't Sit Back and Allow the Loss of Our Freedoms

We elect the government. It works for us. As we watch the Democrats' plans for health care take shape, we can only ask how did our government get so removed, so unbridled, so arrogant that it can tell us how to live our personal lives?

Last Saturday, at 11 o’clock in the evening, the House of Representatives voted by a five vote margin to have the federal government manage the health care of every American at a cost of $1 trillion dollars over the next ten years.

For the first time in American history, if this bill becomes law, the Feds will force you to buy insurance you might not want, or may not need, or cannot afford. If you don’t purchase what the government tells you to buy, if you don’t do so when they tell you to do it, and if you don’t buy just what they say is right for you, the government may fine you, prosecute you, and even put you in jail. Freedom of choice and control over your own body will be lost. The privacy of your communications and medical decision making with your physician will be gone. More of your hard earned dollars will be at the disposal of federal bureaucrats.

It was not supposed to be this way. We elect the government. It works for us. How did it get so removed, so unbridled, so arrogant that it can tell us how to live our personal lives? Evil rarely comes upon us all at once, and liberty is rarely lost in one stroke. It happens gradually, over the years and decades and even centuries. A little stretch here, a cave in there, powers are slowly taken from the states and the people and before you know it, we have one big monster government that recognizes no restraint on its ability to tell us how to live. It claims the power to regulate any activity, tax any behavior, and demand conformity to any standard it chooses.

The Founders did not give us a government like the one we have today. The government they gave us was strictly limited in its scope, guaranteed individual liberty, preserved the free market, and on matters that pertain to our private behavior was supposed to leave us alone.

In the Constitution, the Founders built in checks and balances. If the Congress got out of hand, the states would restrain it. If the states stole liberty or property, the Congress would cure it. If the President tried to become a king, the courts would prevent it.

I am not religeous! Abortion is legal, however, Pregnancy is an avoidable condition and Abortion is Elective Surgery. There is no logical reason I, as a taxpayer, should pay to correct a condition caused by your carelessness. Take responsibility for your actions and use your own money to terminate the life you created. Don't put the burden on me. I want a clear conscience that I am not terminating a new life.

The American people in general do NOT approve of abortion and they sure as hell don't like being billed for it. The time to decide to "not be pregnant" is before you have sex...not after. After all you can't buy car insurance from an accident scene. And what is this "was more than mere advocacy"........and all the push MoveOn and Planned Parenthood is not equally more than mere advocacy? It is clear that despite their "victory" on Saturday that they now seem to be quite concerned that perhaps they won the battle at the cost of the war. This recess will be as bad if not worse than the last one. My guess is there will be no town halls and members will be hiding away.

I don't know that Catholics bishops have that much pull. A lot of people have been contacting the congress people to tell them they don't believe in or want any part of their taxes used in any way to pay for abortion/murder. I think there was enough resistence to this without their help. You don't have to be a minority count (not as in race or ethnicicity) compared to Catholics sto be against this.

But seriously, if women would use birth control or keep their legs crossed, we would not have need of abortion services. Ms. Woolsey, since when does one have to be a member of Congress to oppose a Congressional bill? I cannot imagine how someone who does not appear to be aware of Americans' right free speech was ever elected to Congress. Another thing you should understand, Ms. Woolsey, is that you are a public servant of the taxpayers who put you into office. God bless the bishops; and, Catholic Bishops, everywhere, please stay astride of the continuing unfolding story on PelosiCare, because Pelosi and her team will likely try to put abortion funding back into the bill!

I think Rep. Woolsey is just angry because the bishops didn't give her a briefcase full of money like the K Street Lobbyists seem to do to advocate a position. How about Planned Parenthood and NOW? Rep. Woolsey undoubtedly listens to them, so why can't anyone in Congress listen to an opposing view. Nobody elected the Apollo Foundation to Congress, but they wrote the Stimulus Bill earlier this year. I have no doubt that Rep. Woolsey voted for that. She is simply a typical progressive whiner.
