New Wind Farms in U.S. Do Not Bring Jobs
Despite all the talk of green jobs, the overwhelming majority of stimulus money spent on wind power has gone to foreign companies, according to a new report by the Investigative Reporting Workshop at the American University's School of Communication in Washington, D.C.
Nearly $2 billion in money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has been spent on wind power, funding the creation of enough new wind farms to power 2.4 million homes over the past year. But the study found that nearly 80 percent of that money has gone to foreign manufacturers of wind turbines.
So Where Are the Jobs?
"Most of the jobs are going overseas," said Russ Choma at the Investigative Reporting Workshop. He analyzed which foreign firms had accepted the most stimulus money. "According to our estimates, about 6,000 jobs have been created overseas, and maybe a couple hundred have been created in the U.S."
Even with the infusion of so much stimulus money, a recent report by American Wind Energy Association showed a drop in U.S. wind manufacturing jobs last year.
Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., called the flow of money to foreign companies an outrage, because the stimulus, he said, was intended to create jobs inside the United States.
"This is one of those stories in Washington that when you tell people five miles outside the Beltway, or anywhere else in America, they cannot believe it," Schumer told ABC News, "It makes people lose faith in government, and it frankly infuriates me."
Matt Rogers, the senior adviser to the Secretary of Energy for the Recovery Act, denied there was a problem.

I don't get it......the dems are pushing new energy investments like GE wind technology..... and at the same time Al GORE & UN are telling up Global Warming is REAL......doesn't that mean NO WIND...PLANET GETS HOT.... why bother with WIND AT ALL .....but SOLAR PANELS TAKE UP LAND SPACE because you need alot of panels to replace traditional energy sourses.....

I thought it really funny when recently they wouldn't work because it was too cold even though the wind was blowing at hight speed they would not turn because they froze up.. It would make far more sense to go for natural gas conversions on the broadest possible scale, stop CNG imports, and increase jobs through natural gas production here in the U.S. We could work on nuclear plants and clean coal energy (which we have in abundance), stop making OPEC fat, and work on solar/algae/electric (which may take many years...but we'd have our own resources and more domestic work until such time).

I can vouch for this story. I'm a journeyman toolmaker who has worked for over 2 decades in the aerospace, firearms, and oil industries. Years ago I ran a team of toolmakers who prototyped a new gearbox for a local wind energy farm. Once the design was tested and found to be successful, it was shipped off to Germany to begin production. So much for jobs in the U.S.

WHY we have to hook up to a centeral power system is STILL beyond me. EACH house can be it's own grid. Using turbines and solar panels and so on to get off our power grid. Get them cheap enough to really help and not put so much money out in the start of the process. There are great deals that allow you to RENT and pay small amounts for the set up and for a longer time. When new storage batters are found they UP grade your system. LET each HOME be it's own monopoly and not pay pay pay the outragious fees the power co's get to charge you.
WELL...then there are the FROZEN wind mills in Min. WE can FIX that as well but they need to be make by soemone OTHER than GE too. THAT might be one REASON they failed!!!

In addition to spending our children's wealth on this, in many instances, more wind farms also pass through much higher total generation costs to the ratepayers in the service territory of the utility where they are built. That is the new scam among Democrat-dominated state governments. Force the local monopoly utilities to produce ludicrous percentages of their total supply from wind, then allow them to pass through the crushing cost increases in their rates to the hapless business and individuals with no competitive choice of electric supply.

Ever notice what wind mills do to the landscape? They absolutely destroy the appearance of nature's beauty. Check out the many that run along the mountain top along Rt. 42 in WV. Beautiful country but stuck up every couple of hundred yards as far as one can see, higher than anything they surround are these monsterous wind mills.
