SCIENTISTS at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.
It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years.
The UEA’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation.

It hasn't escaped my attention that "climate change" stories appear under the "business" section. Science or business? You decide!

The "green" party is nothing but a monumental swindle of the First world by the third world. Having lived in a third world country, my direct experience showed me that they can't build it for themselves, nor can they learn how to sustain it, but they strive to steal it even though it means utter destruction, world wide poverty and disease, and the end of civilization. Stealing from a "gringo rico" is something to be proud of, and they actually brag about it. Local authorities will not prosecute a national for stealing from a "gringo rico' but they will prosecute the gringo for making the accusation. I've seen it happen.

it shows no such thing. Does anyone on this site ever read about the story or just get outraged at the often misleading headline?

You certainly gave yourself a descriptive screen name. Do you think global warming means some places will be colder? That the core temperature of Earth is several million degrees, hotter than the sun? That hurricanes form on the equator and spin clockwise there? Go back to school, and pay attention this time.

Wouldn't REAL SCIENCE WANT others to duplicate findings with that raw data to help press the THEORY? So why again was it DESTROYED? lol

I think this discussion is GREAT! Of course, scientific fact is NOT debatable. The temperature at which water freezes is 0 degrees Celsius. That can be demonstrated over and over - scientific fact. There is no such thing as a scientific consensus - it's either fact, or theory.

The alpine glacier atop East Africa’s Mt. Kilimanjaro is shrinking, yet scientific measurements show the mountain has been cooling for decades, and the temperature virtually never rises above freezing.
Kilimanjaro’s glacier has been receding since the 1800s, long before humans were emitting significant amounts of carbon dioxide.

31,486 American scientists have signed this petition,
including 9,029 with PhDs
dk
9,029 who SAY they have PhDs. Nobody checks them. And in what? Veterinary science? I know that at least one of them is a vet, because I picked him at random and looked him up.

At December's U.N. Global Warming conference in Poznan, Poland, 650 of the world's top climatologists stood up and said man-made global warming is a media generated myth without basis. Said climatologist Dr. David Gee, Chairman of the International Geological Congress, "For how many years must the planet cool before we begin to understand that the planet is not warming?"
The earth's temperature peaked in 1998. It's been falling ever since; it dropped dramatically in 2007 and got worse in 2008, when temperatures touched 1980 levels.
dk
Again, I can read. And again, these people are self-identified. And do you really think that having a BS qualifies anyone as a "scientist"? My doctor, our family vet, and the nurse who gave me a blood test last week all have a BS or some equivalent. So do I. Are we all scientists? The Petition Project seems to think so. And why did the OISM find it necessary to print its original mailing to look EXACTLY like it came from the National Academy of Sciences? You don't think that maybe it hoped to fool some scientists into signing it without reading it, do you? Nah, I'm sure it was a coincidence.
fat albert
All of the listed signers have formal educations in fields of specialization that suitably qualify them to evaluate the research data related to the petition statement. Many of the signers currently work in climatological, meteorological, atmospheric, environmental, geophysical, astronomical, and biological fields directly involved in the climate change controversy.
The Petition Project classifies petition signers on the basis of their formal academic training, as summarized below. Scientists often pursue specialized fields of endeavor that are different from their formal education, but their underlying training can be applied to any scientific field in which they become interested.
dk
Yes, I can read. But again, these are all self-identified. You can say whatever you want when you fill out the little form, and nobody will check. Furthermore, you only have to have a BS, which hardly qualifies anyone as a scientist. I have a BS, and I assure you that I don't consider myself to be a scientist. Neither does my doctor, our family vet, or the nurse who gave me a blood test last week. Yet we're all "scientists," as far as the petition is concerned..
Many people have taken random samples of names from the petition. Very few of the signers are qualified in a relevant field, and many of them aren't even scientists. I did this myself once with a small sample of about a dozen identifiable names. My sample contained no scientists in a relevant field.
fat albert
Outlined below are the numbers of Petition Project signatories, subdivided by educational specialties. These have been combined, as indicated, into seven categories.
1. Atmospheric, environmental, and Earth sciences includes 3,804 scientists trained in specialties directly related to the physical environment of the Earth and the past and current phenomena that affect that environment.
2. Computer and mathematical sciences includes 935 scientists trained in computer and mathematical methods. Since the human-caused global warming hypothesis rests entirely upon mathematical computer projections and not upon experimental observations, these sciences are especially important in evaluating this hypothesis.
3. Physics and aerospace sciences include 5,812 scientists trained in the fundamental physical and molecular properties of gases, liquids, and solids, which are essential to understanding the physical properties of the atmosphere and Earth.
4. Chemistry includes 4,821 scientists trained in the molecular interactions and behaviors of the substances of which the atmosphere and Earth are composed.
5. Biology and agriculture includes 2,965 scientists trained in the functional and environmental requirements of living things on the Earth.
6. Medicine includes 3,046 scientists trained in the functional and environmental requirements of human beings on the Earth.
7. Engineering and general science includes 10,103 scientists trained primarily in the many engineering specialties required to maintain modern civilization and the prosperity required for all human actions, including environmental programs.

According to the obvious choice, STATS.org -
In 2008, over eight out of ten American climate scientists believe that human activity contributes to global warming, according to a new survey released by the Statistical Assessment Service (STATS) at George Mason University. The researchers also report that belief in human-induced warming has more than doubled since the last major survey of American climate scientists in 1991.
Between March 19 through May 28, 2007 Harris Interactive conducted a mail survey of a random sample of 489 self-identified members of either the American Meteorological Society or the American Geophysical Union who are listed in the current edition of American Men and Women of Science. A random sample of this size carries a theoretical sampling error of +/- four percentage points. A detailed description of the study’s methodology as well as that of the earlier Gallup survey is available on request.

News article from CNN 2009-
According to a recent U.S. survey based on the opinions of 3,146 scientists.
Two questions were key: Have mean global temperatures risen compared to pre-1800s levels, and has human activity been a significant factor in changing mean global temperatures?
About 90 percent of the scientists agreed with the first question and 82 percent the second.
The strongest consensus on the causes of global warming came from climatologists who are active in climate research, with 97 percent agreeing humans play a role.

I can't believe you quote an "anonymous" poll, that destroyed any credibility you may have had. This is the no spin zone, we deal in credible facts. You posted the facts, it's your job to prove them correct, not out job to prove them wrong.
