GDP Revised Downward to 2.8%
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. economy grew more slowly than initially thought in the third quarter, held back by strong imports and weak investment in nonresidential structures, according to data on Tuesday that hinted at a lackluster recovery.
In its second reading of third-quarter gross domestic product, the Commerce Department said the economy grew at a 2.8 percent annual rate, rather than the 3.5 percent pace it estimated last month.
It was still the fastest pace since the third quarter of 2007. The return to growth after four straight quarters of decline in output probably ended the most painful U.S. recession in 70 years. The economy contracted at a 0.7 percent rate in the April-June period.

It is interesting but the numbers that the Government projects for GDP are always optimistic! The numbers are inveterately distorted that what is actually achieved and have been historically that way for years for both positive and negative growth. Increases in GDP are almost always lower and decreased are almost always higher. The optimism is extremely prejudicial as it almost seems that the Government intentionally distorts the facts. In the 2010 the annual GDP growth is forecast to increase 2.425%. In 2011 the forecast increase in GDP is 6%. The 2010 may be doable but 2011 is ridiculously high and you would think we were China! HMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmm!

I still believe that the GDP for the quarter was 3% less than the revised 2.8%, making it a negative quarter. This is because of the artificial, one-time bump due to cash for clunkers. Next piece of news will be the grand repo of cars and trucks because of the government inducement of many who could not afford to buy into this in the first place. Sounds like the housing crisis redux.

I have thought this. Why has the market gone up? Can you think of any companies that expecting thier salls to increase in the near future? Are there any companies that are saying that they will be increasing production or highering more employees? The only reason that I can see for the market going up is that the value of the dollar is going down. The plant and equipement still have value, it will just require more dollars in the future to replace them. For example, the value of gold has has not increased, it just takes more dolars to purchase it because of the coming devaluation of the dollar. Invest in gold (and lead).
