Climate Bill 'Emergency Provision' Gives Obama Strongman Powers
Both the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade energy approved earlier this year and the version just okayed by Sen. Barbara Boxer’s Senate Environment and Public Works Committee’s Democrats (Republicans boycotted the vote) contains an obscure but nasty bureaucratic provision that requires President Obama to act like Venezuelan strong man Hugo Chavez.

With the first year of the Obamma Administion, the last thing that we need is, President Obamma, having Hugo Chavez, like powers. We have over 30 czars, some of whom, have very radical views, I question the mental state of some of these people. Like, the one who wrote a paper years ago, that avacates, giving trees the right to sue, one who wants to teach 5 year olds about homosexuality. And, President Obamma, himself, goes around the world apologizing for this Great Nation. It's very sad when a US President dosen't speak of the Greatness Nation of America. Who has given the world, most of the inventions, that improved the lives of people around the world. Who has freed the most people and the European Continent, twice in the 20 th century. The tea parties of last spring through Mid September and the election of 11/3/09, said this country is disgusted with the polcies of this Administration and the out and out nonsence being consided or passed by a congress, that is far from most Americans think of and want for the future of the United States. Giving President Obamma more power is like giving an arsonsit a pack of matches and a 5 gallon can of gas. Dave Krout Kingston, PA.

This is completely false. The section in question (Sec. 707) requires the President to use "existing statutory authority". And if that's not enough, he must submit a plan to Congress with recommendations for legislation. It grants NO new powers to the President. Yes, but to my mind this provides justification for, shall we say, an unconventional president to use existing statutory authority in a new way. We have already seen the EPA coerced into declaring CO2 (a gas all living things have always exhaled and is essential to the ecological carbon cycle) a pollutant that threatens health and welfare. This was an example of pushing existing statutory authority to a ludicrous extreme. I am concerned there are other cards up the administration's sleeve to play if this passes.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but what the bill actually says is that the President must "submit to Congress a plan identifying domestic and international actions that will achieve necessary additional greenhouse gas reductions, including any recommendations for legislative action."
Reporting to Congress with legislative recommendations constitutes "strongman powers"? Seriously?

If the monstrous ObamaCare passes, the government will basically own 48% of the entire American economy, taking over the medical industry after having already taken over the other major industries of banking, auto & housing.
