Obama: U.S. Should Copy Germany's Economy

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Barack Obama warned on Monday that more U.S. job losses lay ahead despite a turnaround in the economy, and he called for a new "post bubble growth model" with greater focus on U.S. exports.

"If Germany, a wealthy, highly unionized industrial nation, can generate 40 percent of its economy as export-based, then it seems to me that there is something we're missing that they are doing right, and we have got to figure that out," he told a meeting of his Economic Recovery Advisory Board.

Obama... Take your union focus programs back to Chicago when we send you home.....you never had any experience and now are being seen as terribly inexperienced, in far over your head, indecisive, untruthful, and an absolute disgrace as president. To avoid further self humiliation, take a vacation, do nothing and wait for 2012 and the electorate will take care of the rest.

Gotta love the Fox "News" spin on a Reuters story. I guess this is what they mean by "Fair & Balanced." They take the story, which is about the broader economy in which Obama simply points out that Germany has been successful in export biz and suggests that the US could do better and voila!

It doesn't matter what foreign economy he has a crush on this week. Until he understands our government has no money but what it volunteers away from taxpayers and taxpayers will soon be tapped out thanks to all of this spreading of the wealth.
There will be no huge tax chunks to count on from "evil" big business when the government own and operates most of our industries--they are already at 30%--and the "evil" rich will all be donating to and voting conservative.

@ginty mcginty
you are wrong .. the standard of living in Europe (western Europe, since obviously eastern Europe is lower) is not higher than the US .. I've lived there, the people are squeezed into tiny flats, no room for their kids, or dogs, totally inconvenient daily life if one does anything out of going to and fro from work, etc. They cannot afford a US standard of living, it would costs them 50-85% more to have our standard of living. Until you live abroad, don't ever quote an index.

I live in a 3 storey four bedroom house occupied by myself, my husband and son. I dont have any cats or dogs because I dont want them.
I can certainly afford a better standard of living than the US. And I get my facts from the many, many standards of living indexs published by many different organisations. You on the other hand seem to be making yours up.

If you want to fix the {Economy} then you need to bring the jobs that were taken from this country back. You do this and the {Economy} will fix itself. We import more than we should , bring the jobs back to America! This idea will be the one idea that will work, so do it and so.

The EU Lisbon Treaty will be ratified in the next few days and by Dec 1st of this year - Europa - will become a major player on the world scene. This mega-bloc of nations would then be in a position to rival the -world power status-of our united states.
This most important news is unknown to most Americans, due to our biased news coverage of ourselves, or the mid-east ect.
But this mega power will soon burst upon an unsuspecting U.S. and if anyone thinks we are in financial ruin now - give it a few months and watch what happens.
Angela Merkel, German Chancellor addressed the U.S. congress today for only the second time from the end of WWII. German ambitions have not changed much, so look for them to be the driving and guiding power behind this world mega bloc known as Europe.
In her speech today, Merkel called for ' global order under global regulation, under initiatives to be enforced by the very nation from which she hails.'
America would be wise to look across the pond and see what is happening and to keep a sharp eye on Europe and especially on Germany!

The European Union is already a major player on the world scene is just that your American-centric media doesnt cover it.
With 27 member countries the EU is currently the worlds biggest trading power (bigger than the US and China).
And is not called Europa.

Let me educate you "Mad as heck..ad nauseum". Per Bloomberg Oct. 10. German exports unexpectedly fell for the first time in four months in August, a sign that the recovery of Europe’s largest economy remains “fragile” even as global demand picks up. On the other hand "U.S exports rose by $228 million, or 0.2%, to $128.2 billion, the highest since December." The bottom line is the benefits to the country. Standard of living is far better in the U.S. where U.S. workers retain larger percentages of their earnings allowing for greater consumer spending than the Germans.
