On a Boston radio program this morning, Bill Cosby suggested that President Obama spoke too soon on the controversial arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates.“I’ve heard about five different reports [on the details of the arrest],” Cosby said on Boston’s WZLX. “If I’m the president of the United States, I don’t care how much pressure people want to put on it about race, I’m keeping my mouth shut.”

My post made in on line for three minutes and then is was deleted. People here afraid of the truth when it comes to blaming Americans for slavery. Truth is strongest tribes in Africa sold slaves from the weakest tribes, Americans, French and British bought slaves. African ancestors and American ancestors are both to blame for slave trade. This generation of Whites do not approve, do not own slaves and America is the most diverse country in the whole world. Americans are more tolerant, accepting and generous than any other race. And, by the way, I am not White.
blacknblue
Oops, you forgot Portugal and Spain. Spain was a very, very big slave nation. The first European slave traders were from Portugal. The little country of Portugal built the first European fort in Africa in 1481. It was called Fort Elmina. Oh and the Dutch..........The Dutch seized the fort from the Portuguese in 1637, and took over all the Portuguese Gold Coast in 1642. The slave trade continued under the Dutch until 1871 when the fort became a possession of the British Empire.
And yes there was also that nasty tribal thing of the stronger tribe taking the weaker tribes.
A lot of blame for those living hundreds of years ago. Know anybody that was a live then? It is old history and old history is over and done.
vlp
That is very true about the warring tribe would sell people from other tribes (got rich for it) but I will however point out that the there were "white slaves" as well. They were called indentured servants (as high as 75% of the colonies were indentured servants) and they were treat as slaves. Lucky for them it lasted for 7 years instead of a life time for African Americans. Slavery is a horrible blot in our history but our nation has been slave free for over 100 years (ended 1865). Unfortunately for Americans who happen to be black , another 100 (1968) years to be treated as equals. It is time to heal! It is time that we judge a person on their character and not what color skin they have.

Thank you Mr. Cosby for saying "What's Right".
Obummer, for all the post-racial rhetoric, still sees controversies in prisms that reflect stereotyped us/them racialism rather than looking at each incident empirically. Clear loser, the Pres. of the US, sadly.

Thanks Bill, my good and old time friend of youthful days. Though those days are long past and were rural, sparse of the colors of man, your invasion of black America into our homes resounded loudly with strong sense of how much we all share. Your ceaseless wit and humble tease took the fear out of diversity not experienced. Your lifetime has made a nation laugh, and learn and heal. I never felt you proposed teaching opportunities. You simply took your chance, to lead the willing, along paths of best learning guided by a teachable spirit. Your success should be a beckon for all. Shamefully, some refuse to follow. Fortunately, the vast majority across this land labor hand to hand, to see and know better days.
Thanks Bill, you serve this nation well.

The only race Bill Cosby ever belonged to is the Human Race. I have always loved and admired his grace.

Mr. COSBY have you call Obummer? Please do, if you read these comments.
Do you think he invite to his "BEER Diplomacy Summit"?

That "Race Card" has been played so often and by so many people that it should be a tattered, old, mangy thing by now.

Hey Bill... you reading this board? If so I'm asking you to also attend the "beer summit" so you can put your comments into the proper perspective. As you will see from this board, they have been misconstrued.

Dear Professor Gates,
Please listen before you alter fates.
Do not let one’s pride,
Cause this great nation to divide.
Look at what is happening in such a short time,
What this is undoing is really the crime.
All across America people are upset,
Now I ask you Sir what good will all this get?
A learning lessons already taught,
So many people’s mending has been for naught.
A man has risen to lead us all,
Do not be a part of America’s fall.
This is the year of our lord, two thousand and nine,
So please do what you know to be divine.
One planet, one race, as one beating heart,
The world may end some day, please do not be the start.
We lead the world with freedom first,
Do not let racism quench it’s undying thirst.
To not enslave us all at last,
Lets look forward away from our past.
The mistakes we make and continue to do,
Could spell the end of more then me and you.
By bringing down our great nation,
All of this for the sake of sensation.
I ask you not to let our enemies see,
Such things may still live in the land of the free.
I love the different colors of man,
We were created according to plan.
So different and the same,
All of us with our own name.
Man and woman combine,
To create new life is so divine.
Able to mix and mingle,
No one has to be single.
Banding together to survive,
I for one am happy to be alive.
If we all looked alike it would not be nice,
I’m so glad to be the only Sonny Rice.

HURRAH!!!! for Mr. Cosby!!!!! He needs to visit with Jessie Jackson, Charlie Rangle, Al Sharpton and now Professor Gates!!!! These poverty pimps ALWAYS,ALWAYS, ALWAYS SHOUT RACE!!!!!! ACUTALLY, THEY NEED TO ACCEPT THE FACT THAT GOD ALMIGHTY, WHO FORMED THEM IN THEIR MOTHER'S WOMB, DESIGNED THEM BLACK!!! GROW UP GUYS!!!!GET OVER YOUR ANGER!!!!!!!!!
Gordo
Rangle, Sharpton, & Jackson (and now include the Prez) can't afford to have Racism go away. They have to keep racism alive and well or they're out of a platform to speak from. The cop that arrested Gates was selected by a black superior to conduct training in how to avoid racial profiling. If Gates had been arrested for burglarly, there would be reason to suspect problems. He was arrested for disorderly conduct when the officer was attempting to do his JOB. Thank you Bill Cosby. We need more like you to stand against the race baiters.

Please speak louder Mr. Cosby. You need to be out there more, you always speak from wisdom and intelligence. We want and need to hear more from you.

I have the utmost respect for Cosby. I grew up listening his albums in the '60's and his endeavors in TV. He is a great American and he is so right lately on how the black community should be like. Screaming racism when you failed or don't try to get ahead is wrong. All of us as Americans should be hard working and not reaching out our hands for a gimme!! Cosby is also right about Rap music, the swearing and the "N" words use is disgusting. No way is it "ART".

I'm afraid that the so called "race card" is starting to become predictable. Maybe even guys who make a living out of race like Jesse Jackson agree and that's why we haven't heard much from him. Of course Al Sharpton is ready to make more money out of it; but does anyone really take him seriously anymore?

I can answer that! NO!!!!

no, we got a man elected to an office who is not qualified because too many people bought into that "white guilt". I have no slaves, I had no slaves, my parents had no slaves, neither did my grandparents nor great grandparents. This man was not even a slave nor were his ancestors. I just wish you would stop blaming those of us who had nothing to do with slavery for having something to do with slavery. And PS, did not blacks join in that slave trade thing????? He is not my president and never will be, he hates this country and going to destroy it. I guess now we know for sure he listened to all those sermons for 20 years.

Thank you Mr. Cosby for standing up for common sense. I am really sick and tired of people jumping into situations when they do not have the facts or the entire picture. And, to use race baiting to add to the situation, justified or not. BHO 's comments about this arrest reminds me of Rev. Wright and his rants that have little facts and truths to the support a conversation about race. This was a police issue that wouldn't have been noticed in a local paper if the Elite of Harvard Society had not called the President. For a President to JUMP to his conclusions in this issue shows just how our UNSAFE our American SECURITY is; WE ARE in REAL TROUBLE. The teenagers running this Administration are really out of sink with REALITY. Pray for deliverance and VOTE in 2010, 2012 .........................................

I wasn't able to get this to post below to Blackgent99, so I have to start a new discussion (the usual glitch here at FoxNation...ho hum, maybe one day it will be fixed!) My point previously about my ancestors was to say that, Yes, I am caucasion but personally, nor ancestrally, have no participation in US Slavery since "we" came to the US after the Civil War, approx. 1870s and beyond. As to the issue of Slavery, however, it must be remembered that BLACK MAN of Africa participated in it, as did WHITE MAN of England and other European countries and ultimately the US as well. The Black Tribal leaders are the ones who SOLD their own people to begin with!! Granted, had they had no buyers, there would have been no Slave Trade. BUT, you tell me...WHICH CAME FIRST?? My point is this: MANY White Americans of today have NO HISTORY attached to Slavery and find the thought of it abhorent. Having just returned from a trip to the South, I find it sickening to think of it!! I was raised with everybody...whites, blacks, asians, jews, and other minorities. I am GRATEFUL for that as well!! I also have friends in all those categories!! As to Prof. Gates, he became verbally abusive to the Police Officer. I personally believe the Officer had a "call" to make at the time based on ALL the data he was taking in, in that moment. Being a Health Care Professional, sometimes I too must "make a call" in the moment and quickly.

BRAVO, ALEXANDRA!!! MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY
Blackgent99
Hello Alexandra....
I think your heart is in the right place and I respect that. However, the reason for my post was not to place the blame with the hope of gaining repayment of any sort. That would be a huge mistake. I will be incredibly honest with you. I am a proud black man who is increasingly disappointed that a large percentage of African Americans cannot seem to overcome the same pitfalls of single parenting, poverty, undereducation, crime, etc. As I said earlier, I believe the answer to overcoming these problems must come from within the black community, HOWEVER, I also get upset when I hear people who respond to the racial issues raised by black people by saying 'Boohoo, get over it, that was centuries ago and you were never a slave." I happen to believe these current problems are rooted in the past. It's like tripping a person early on in a marathon race and then berating them when they finish in the back of pack. Thanks for your posts.
Unreal
Alexandra- I think you have to acknolwedge that the experience of blacks is not the same as the experience of other groups that were discriminated against. Yes, we hated groups of immigrants and made their lives difficult. However, there weren't prevented from voting (rather were encouraged to do so- early and often) nor prohibited from attending decent schools until the 1960s.
