Obama Responds to Record Unemployment By Calling a Summit
President Obama took time Thursday -- before jetting off to Asia for a 10-day tour -- to announce a December jobs summit aimed at synching job growth with the massive government spending meant to "break the back" of the recession.
The announcement came as the Labor Department reported another 502,000 new jobless claims, two high-tech mainstays announced big layoffs and the unemployment rate reached 10.2 percent.
Obama said the White House forum will gather CEOs, small business owners, economists, financial experts and representatives from labor unions and nonprofit groups "to talk about how we can work together to create jobs and get this economy moving again." Read more ...

BHO has conducted several 'summits' this year......none have produced any positive results. Do you really think anything will come from a jobs summit from this clown? I do not. You need to take a closer look at the health care reform bills. If do indeed run a small business and your employees are indeed part time, then you will not be forced to pay for anyone's health insurance, except perhaps your own. If fact, the exemption of part-time employees will only encourage big businesses to work many of their employees only to the limit of the part-time definition to avoid their responsibility to be a good corporate citizen.

German unemployment soared following reunification and high unemployment persisted for many years. Most of the last three or four years the rate has dropped as a result of 'liberal' policies, and that includes 2009.

I doubt that the Obama summit will produce anything than the same old Republicrat "grow the economy to create jobs" nonsense that has resulted in jobless recoveries in the wake of our last three recessions. Only two approaches seem to have any chance of success. In the depths of the the Great Depression, the federal government became the employer of last by providing meaningful work instead paying extended unemployment benefits to people for doing nothing but grousing about how though they have it. Some of you might howl about anything that resembles the bugaboo New Deal, but it got people working. Today, Germany has suffered a recession not unlike our own, but has not had unemployment soar. They have employed a carrot and stick approach with the business sector by providing subsides and incentives for new hires and punitive measures for profitable firms that lay off workers. That is a less direct and therefore less efficient approach, but might be workable. Of course the US of A won't do either. Even if Obama and the Democrats have the spine to suggest anything that might actually work, the Republicans will oppose it to a man regardless of what it is.

Your dogma is not support by statistical evidence. The economy has done marginally better by most measures under Democrat vs. Republican administrations. I also take issue with your contention that we know what works. Thinking that we had repealed the business cycle and that it was different this time got us into this mess. You can blame BHO for not having a magic wand, GWB for overseeing an economic collapse, WJC for contributing to the housing and equity bubbles, RWR and GHWB for clinging too long to the supply side economic policy that was suited to addressing stagflation, but untenable as a long term economic philosophy. In the final analysis the Republicans and Democrats talk pretty smart when they are out of power, but end up being not very different when they are in charge.

Actually, the unemployment is higher than 10.2%. In Michigan, we are in dire straits. I saw a chart on FOX yesterday showing with the passage of the wonderful stimulus, our unemployment would go down (government projections). Hmmmm, it has gone in the wrong direction and will keep going up. Of course, 0 is going to have a summit--that should solve the problem. (so)

This guy's solution, since he has no history of governing anything, is to appoint czars to do his thinking and devise his solutions, and a speechwriter to compose his orations. It's all a political machine with no substance or heart. It's robotic. When "Glitch A" pops up, the Machine turns on to manufacture an answer. Czars "Blamestorm", Speechwriter fires up rhetoric to pass along the chain of command. Leader makes a campaign speech like a droid, then hits the links or boards AF1. After all most of the unemployed are repubs that refuses to work to make his admin look bad. Once they are in jail they will no longer count them as unemployed. Fair question here, Honestly how can this guy lead our country if he can't figure out 1)Business won't hire when they see higher taxes coming their way. 2)The health reform he is pushing so hard will undoubtable raise the taxes on ALL TAX paying people. 3)Business that doesn't offer health insurance will be fined.
Now, I'm not a genius but, I do know that any smart invester is not going to put his money into something that will undoubtably cost way more money than they will be rewarded for. That being said, B.O. can hold all the summits he wants and continue to campaign but, the people with the money are the ones holding all the power and until they feel comfortable they won't invest their money to lift the ecomony. You know, spread the wealth type of stuff.
