Cheney Questions Obama's Afghan War Motives

Former Vice President Dick Cheney on Thursday urged President Barack Obama to commit enough troops to win the war in Afghanistan, warning hesitation would embolden U.S. foes and devastate its allies.

"I don't see how he can do anything other than move aggressively to achieve victory," the Wyoming Republican, a harsh critic of the new administration, said in a speech to a Michigan business group.

"Our adversaries take heart from our hesitation and vacillation," Cheney said.

"Our not following through will have devastating consequences not only for Afghanistan but also for our NATO allies. This is the first time ever (NATO members have) committed troops to combat."

Cheney was planning to run for President in 2008 but Lynne talked him out of it. She said, "In America Presidents are limited to two terms."

With all the horrible things Bush and Cheney did during their administration, it's hard to imagine what they would have to do to lose your respect. If lying to go to war with Iraq, wiretapping your phones, torturing people, destroying checks and balances, eroding your civil liberties, selling out your safety for business profits, and abandoning New Orleans in an emergency doesn't do it? Man what would it take? Oh yeah, health care legislation that the country can't afford. Oh Wait! Bush did that too with the $1.6 trillion dollar unfunded Medicare Prescription Drug Plan. I guess your just a political hypocrite.

Actually, they only tapped phones of over seas calls, not you and me. And the Medicare Prescription D is under budget, has helped many seniors who are hooked on the public dole because of FDR, another democrat. Too many believed they were going to live off what the government gave them, so they did not prepare for the future. Now they are slaves to it. So you are very mistaken.

Your counter-argument for the Medicare drug plan is irrelevant and disingenuous. It's irrelevant because the plan was never funded to begin with, so it doesn't matter if it's under budget. That's why the US Comptroller General David M. Walker has called it "...probably the most fiscally irresponsible piece of legislation since the 1960s." It's all just adding to the deficit. You're argument is disingenuous because no one here cares if the current health reform bill actually helps people, so defending Bush by pretending to care is patently ridiculous. In regards to the wiretapping, it did involve wiretapping calls that originated in or terminated within the United States, which was illegal at the time.

If it's true that the original and primary reason for going to war was "..to get these B@stards that are responsible for the attacks against us", why did we invade Iraq where Al-Qaeda had absolutely no presence until Bush invaded? We're were attacked by Saudis yet there was no backlash against Saudi Arabia and certainly no invasion of that country. Could the reason be we need the Saudi oil? Now we're invading Afghanistan where according to our own generals, there are only 100 members of Al-Qaeda in the entire country. We constantly hear talk about getting these B@stards but how can we accomplish this by invading countries where they have little or no presence? Osama bin Laden is laughing at our stupidity.

Bush and Cheney should be grateful there are actually some true believers remaining who continue to praise them because very few others do. Bush couldn't find a single country in the world where thousands of people didn't gather to protest his visits. Not that he's popular in America. Even his own Republicans abandoned him; they didn't even want him to speak at their convention or campaign for him. If a vote were taken to select the most hated man in the world, Bush would "win" in a landslide and Cheney would finish second.
