Enfield (WTNH) - The ACLU of Connecticut is warning the Enfield school board to stop holding graduation ceremonies at a Bloomfield megachurch, claiming the graduates and their families are unconstitutionally being subjected to religious messages.

The Constitution does not contain the words "Separation of Church and State". The phrase separation of church and state is generally traced to the letter written by Thomas Jefferson in 1802 to the Danbury Baptists. The phrase was pick up and miss used. Even though it is never in law it has worked its way into main stream thought and legal precedence.

I know when my children graduated the problem was having enough room for all the family members, friends and graduates. If this church is big enough to hold everyone...what is the problem. I don't remember any religious topics being brought up at my childrens graduations. The aclu is grasping at straws to try to create turmoil.

Church buildings are used by the government every year for elections, school boards use them for graduation, FEMA uses them as emergency shelters, etc...etc... The ACLU is the first to scream about long wait lines on election day and the failure of government during Katrina BUT if it was not for people being FORCED into these buildings lives would have not been saved, current administrations would not have won, and so forth.
Next time there is a natural disaster or an election - lets shut down every church building and have the ACLU lawyers put up tents and then see if people are happy with that scenario.

Whats the issue here? A christian church is defined as being the people not the building . the building is just the building where the church meets. It is not a temple or a mosque which have physical significance. Teh ACLU knows this but will continue it's christa-phobic prejudicial lawsuits.

The people of Enfield don`t have a problem with the practise. Churches have always been used as meeting houses. It`s a tradition in New England. In the day, it was either the Church or the tavern. The ACLU worries too much.

Let me get this straight-the ACLU is afraid that people will feel influenced about religion. Does this mean that if one goes to a jail or prison one will be influenced by the inmates? Does this mean that if one goes into a liquor store one will be guided to become an alcholoic?? The ACLU's actions are perfectly reasonable. A publicly funded school board should not be graduating its students at a church. It is directly in conflict with the 1st amendment which prohibits the state government from forcing a person to go to (or keep away from) a church. If parents want their children to be graduated at a church they should put them in a private school, but children shouldn't be subjugated to any particular religion on the taxpayer's dollar.

Haven't read the Constitution have you? Try reading the First Amendment before making yourself look silly by saying that it prohibits a state government from forcing a person to go to a church. It doesn't say anything like that.

Since its founding, it has used the judiciary to get their leftist agenda through the courts. This group has a great distain for religion and the free excercise of it. They particularly hate the Christian religion. They want Americans to believe in the power of the state, instead of a higher power. If they had their way, all churches in the U.S. would be banned and destroyed. The ACLU is nothing more than a fascist organization and it will do anything to destroy the traditions and the constitution of this country. They are a disgrace to all.
