After struggling for two consecutive cycles on the Senate battlefield, Republicans seem poised to make a comeback in 2010.
With 37 seats up for grabs — and Democrats defending 19 of them — the GOP is flexing its muscles in Democratic-leaning states like Delaware, Connecticut and Illinois. Recruiting coups by National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn of Texas are one big reason Republicans feel a new sense of confidence. Democrats, meanwhile, are taking on an increasingly defensive crouch as the party in power, which must defend President Barack Obama’s ambitious — and expensive — agenda.

More important than the Senate are these state sovereignty gubernatorial races:

PLEASE answer this: will my writing to senators who are NOT my senators make a DIFFERENCE in the voting on the absurd healthcare bill ? Hubby says no - I say yes it will!!
StWannabe
IDK why my laptop made multiple posts ....so sorry!
NJG
Even writing to your own senators probably isn't going to make a difference; there are some exceptions, but in general Congress doesn't really care what the people think. If you want to make a difference, focus on writing the members of your state legislature and urge them to nullify federalized health care. http://www.tenthamendmentcenter.com/

I hope we are not just Changing Tweedledee for Tweedledum once AGAIN.
If that is the case I will vote 3rd Party the rest of my life. NO VOTE IS EVER WASTED.

Plus 10 for the Republicans in the Senate? That would be great but at his point I think it will be more like plus 5-8 unless unemployment continues to rise. Then all bets are off and it could be a Republican landslide.
Democrats made their gains in 2006 and 2008 on the backs of an unpopular war, deficit spending and a stock market that crashed just prior to the election.
Well, we are still in Iraq (though now basically having been victorious thanks to the Surge that all Democrats said wold fail) and even more are dying in Afghanistan now, Obama has quadruped the annual deficit and promised to double the national debt, the stock market is up but the dollar has crashed and unemployment is at a 26 year high and still rising.
All this...and the Democrats who promised to "drain the swamp" are caught in scandal after scandal. Democrats who promised more transparency...have been anything but and sign bills into law...EVEN THEY HAVE NOT READ. Obama who promised to be post-partisan and post-racial has been the complete opposite.
I'm being cautious but if the Democrats continue to lose independents at the rate they have been (and they will if unemployment stays high and the Republicans focus on jobs and the economy)...the Democrats could lose both houses of Congress in 2010.
USA Made
We''l be seeing more on recess and breaks, American's are asking, "Why Does Obama Hate This Country?"
sobemike
Don't count your chickens before they hatch! If the Americans are stupid enough to vote the GOP back into power, then they deserve what they get. To be fair, the American people did not vote for Dubya in 2000. He became president by means of election fraud in Florida.
Sam Damon
Americans were stupid enough to vote in the clownish Democrats.
Now they are wising up to that giant mistake.
The stolen election was Franken over Coleman. Election fraud has long been a Democrat tactic. Learn some history son. I know our schools are bad but you can check out some books at the library. Just be sure to read some books not written by Democrat sychophants. I can help if you want.

I see you're still getting your facts and advice from Rosie O'Donnell. How's that workin' for ya???

What a moron. Learn to read and comprehend!! History based on fact not Lib talking points!!

Too many moderates ruinning on the GOP side
Sam Damon
If moderates are elected in primaries and are solid on fiscal conservatism and good ideas on getting America back to work...they will have no problem getting votes from conservatives.
If "moderate" means left of the Democrat on the ballot...they might have a problem...but who cares. We don't care about letters behind names...we care about policies and getting back to the Constitution.
NJG
A Senate term is set by the Constitution at 6 years. Either changing the term of office, or implementing term limits, would require a constitutional amendment.

Halleujah! Vote for anyone in the next election EXCEPT these ANTI-Constitution and ANTI-Republic socialist freaks who are currently in power & we WILL get our country back.

Sherrod Brown of Ohio is about the most spineless piece of elected vermin in our state! His handling of his August "town hall" debacle was cowardly to say the least! He made the national news by waiting till the last minute to announce (to his friends and supporters) his town hall. He didn't count on "We the People" finding out. Does Barry need a "wimp czar"?
Sam Damon
Have you ever watched that clown on CSPAN?
He is not just a coward...he is as dumb as a bucket of hair. That's probably why he thought he could get away with his little bit of trickery.
TAW
The way things are going and it's only been 10 months, there will be more than that. Everyday we wake up there is some proposal to spend more on something, anything, as long as it involves spending money we do not have.
Also, the way maobama turns his cheek on important issues and the way they shove this healthcare at us is just bubbling over and soon it will explode.
We will take our country back. We're all looking foward to it (except for the 20% of lalaland dems).
Sam Damon
There is literally something every day that turns my stomach.
America made a huge mistake giving the Democrats all this power.

I'll bet the number will be higher. I'll do everything I can to get Mark Schauer booted out.
Sam Damon
They are mostly keeping their powder dry.
They don't need to say much and are for the most part the Democrats are digging their own graves.
Socialism doesn't work son. Never has...never will.

It's a process, but nonetheless, it is happening.
liberals are destroying this nation
all I can say is thank you, Obama , for destroying your own party
Sam Damon
Well, to be fair he is getting plenty of help.
Essentially, what this shows with the Democrats literally holding all the power what they are really all about. They have been Marxists in sheep's clothing for years but now we get to see them for that they really are with their inner neo-Marxist out in all its glory.
rcaamo
More than 10 I would suspect.
THE TOMB
It is never too early to start planning and working! However, we cannot lose site of the present and issues like HealthCare, Cap and Trade, Card Check, and Immigration all which must be stopped. There is a light at the end of the tunnel but politicians and parties have shut it off before! We must win back the House and any gains in the Senate will be a plus! VOTE THE DEMS OUT IN 2010 AND FOR GODS SAKE LETS NOT SCREW IT UP AGAIN!
