Hoffman 'Unconcedes' NY-23

Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman has "unconceded" in New York's special House election after reports that the vote margin between him and Rep. Bill Owens (D) has narrowed.

Hoffman conceded the race on Election Night after learning he trailed Owens by 5,335 votes. But the Syracuse Post-Standard reported last week that the margin had shrunk to 3,026 votes after recanvassing.

I think one reason that more Americans don't vote is that the entire process has been hijacked by political parties and the media. No candidate should ever concede. Wait for ALL votes to be counted and let the voters decide, as they should. What's the rush? Campaigns are full of mud slinging and lies and last for months until many voters get sick of hearing about it. On election days the media is always giving a play-by-play thanks to exit polls. I've heard some people decide not to vote because "Someone already won." or "It looks like the law passed so why bother voting? It won't count." I think it would help the process if absolutely NO results were published at least until the polls close. That might reduce voter apathy and get more people to the polls. It might even be a good idea to ban exit polls. Wait until all the votes are counted and THEN everyone will know what the voters decided. Why can't the vote counting last as long as it needs to (within reason)?

FYI, I am only here after work and a small socializing! I Gore and Hoffman can unconcede, from my view, they are entitled to take back what they said, if FACTS allowed them do so! We all make mistake.

LOL I was only kidding.
Yes, we all make mistakes, but if a candidate is truly committed to the campaign and has any belief in the election process then they will NOT concede. They will wait until all the votes are counted and the voters have spoken. If a candidate concedes (quits) without waiting for ALL votes to be counted, then they should give up any rights to the election. That includes Gore.

Some of us have jobs and lives. We can't all hang out here blogging every day like you seem to.
I think Hoffman should never have conceded in the first place. No politician should. ALL votes should count and be counted. Al Gore should not have conceded either, especially since it was a more important, national election. That being said, the both quit and gave up. Neither one should be allowed to "unconcede." I didn't want Gore to be President but I didn't want Bush either. That was a no-win election. They usually are.
I don't know anything about Owens of Hoffman so I can only say that Hoffman quit and Owens was sworn in. That'll probably be how it'll end up. I don't know how the laws in New York will resolve this but I think all the voters need to be heard in every election.

The election has still not been certified by the state of New York. Therefore if when counting the 10,000 remaining absentee ballots the totals change then Mr. Owens will be removed from office. Mr. Owens should not have been sworn in by Pelosi until the certification came through.

What an intelligent, inciteful remark. If you had been paying attention (when do Dems ever) you would realize that Hoffman is not Republican at all. He is a Conservative (with a capital C). The Republican candidate (RINO) withdrew from the ballot and threw her support behind the Democrat. regardless the final outcome, this is a loss for the Dems; just the fact that an unknown can come in and unseat the GOP candidate and nearly beat the Dem should have you libs very worried for next year.

I would like to know how Owen's could be sworn in by the House prior to all the votes being counted and the vote certified? Didn't Pelosi jump the gun a little just to pass her health care bill? Just because Hoffman conceeded, all votes should be counted and the final vote must be certified prior to being sworn in the House. Does anyone have an answer or know the correct proceedure?
